New Gun Control Idea: Take Guns from Senior Citizens

Breitbart – by AWR Hawkins

John Hopkins University’s Shannon Frattaroli sees danger in gun ownership among senior citizens, and pointed out Thursday that California’s Gun Violence Restraining Orders (GVROs) provide a way that families can have guns confiscated from older relatives.

Senior citizens have been among the most adamant Second Amendment advocates in recent years, such as the late Otis McDonald (above), who challenged Chicago’s handgun ban at the U.S. Supreme Court — and won.

But Frattaroli, who works at the John Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, has expressed concern over what an grandparent with a gun might do to him or herself via suicide, or the danger that may befall a grandchild who finds the gun.

According to New America Media, Frattaroli said:

So much of the dialogue around guns in this country has been around crime, and lately, mass shootings. And the older population is not part of that. But when you look at the suicide issue, it’s impossible to ignore older Americans. With that in mind, any conversation about guns has to include a conversation [about] gun ownership among older adults. There’s definitely more to be done on that issue in the United States.

She indicates lawmakers in many states have enacted laws requiring older Americans to show proficiency before being allowed to continue driving, but points out that laws requiring proficiency in firearms are not a topic of discussion. Instead, such citizens continue to own guns and cite self-defense as a common reason for so doing.

But Frattaroli believes the dangers posed by armed older citizens far outweighs any safety they otherwise gain by owning firearms. She said:

Older adults need to consider the risk whether an actual home invasion is likely to occur, versus the likelihood that the [older] person would use that gun to do harm to themselves, or a grandchild would find that gun, or they would harm someone coming into the home who’s not there for a home invasion, someone there for a legitimate purpose like a caretaker.

She ultimately cites California’s GVROs as a way that concerned family members can have guns taken from older family members.

Breitbart News previously reported that GVROs can be issued without the gun owner having any say in the process. KPCC reported, “[GVROs]  could be issued without prior knowledge of the person. In other words, a judge could issue the order without ever hearing from the person in question, if there are reasonable grounds to believe the person is a threat based on accounts from the family and police.”

  1. My arthritic grandfather could take down and reassemble a .30 cal or any other rifle or shotgun for that matter better then most. This woman is a filth target. As I would imagine most people’s grand parents.

  2. Yes, let’s confiscate guns from the one’s least able to defend themselves without! I’m goin’ in with gun in hand, if they want it, they’re gonna have to take it from me. (from my cold, dead fingers!)

  3. My family is way ahead of them on this
We are giving them out to family members while we are still alive to do so
You need to have a plan
Also , if a family member that owns passes away
You need to remove all the guns into a trusted member of the family that will safeguard them and distribute them to the rest of the family if and when necessary, don’t wait a day .. Greaving is allowed , but don’t snooze
This is important so get it done within the first 8 to 10 hours or less

These items need to remain in the family
And all of the family needs to be protected by those guns
If you have types in your family “you can’t trust”
Than by all means keep yer mouth shut you don’t know anything about it

  4. Another vile, evil witch heard from. Stuff it, you senior hating, age discriminating, ignorant, stupid fool.

  5. Just another segment of the population to work on. Vets, the elderly, the “crazies”, the felons, and any other group of people they can attach a label to, and make an excuse for disarming them.

  6. Who are you fooling? They already do this through act 73 and call it a medical 301 or 302, in magical jurisdiction lines of Pennsylvania.

All a bitch has to do is complain or cry that you are a threat.

  7. I suspect someone has realized that the older a person is, the less he has to lose by taking some of the System’s pigs with him. A person who doesn’t fear death, or who has at least fully come to terms with its inevitability, is very dangerous indeed. I suspect the pigs and their political masters will find that out the hard way if they try to render older people defenseless.

  8. “But Frattaroli, who works at the John Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, has expressed concern over…”

The Bloomberg School of Public Health.
Seems like all these gun grabbing ideas are coming straight from the Jews…but they don’t have the rocks to try and disarm the people themselves. They have to sneak around at it and come up with plans that seem plausible on the surface but amount to nothing more than infringements.
Then, send out their badge wearing minions to do the dirty work for them.

  9. I’m often called a ‘f#@ktard conspiracy theorist’ and told “NO ONE IS COMING FOR YOUR GUNS, YOU MORON”, when, in fact, ‘they’ are. Slowly but surely.

  10. “… own guns and cite self-defense as a common reason for so doing.”

That is plenty of reason to own guns and THE reason to own guns to protect property, your life.

James Wilson, an original Judge on the Supreme Court and one of six Founders who signed both the Declaration of Ind. and the Constitution stated,” Homicide is required when it is necessary for the defense of one’s person or house. …It is the great natural law of self-preservation which, as we have seen, cannot be repealed or superseded or suspended by any human institution. This law, however, is expressly recognized in the constitution Pennsylvania: “The right of the citizens to bear arms in the defense of themselves shall not be questioned.” …Every man’s house is deemed, by the law, to be his castle: and the law, while it invests him with the power, places on him the duty of the commanding officer of his house. “Every man’s house is his castle…and if any one be robbed in it, it shall be esteemed his own default and negligence.”

The law of self-preservation is the first law of nature.

  11. “But Frattaroli believes the dangers posed by armed older citizens far outweighs any safety they otherwise gain by owning firearms.”

The dangers posed by scumbag commie jewb#tches like YOU… FAR outweighs ANY dangers posed by Americans with guns… of ANY age!
