The Last Resistance – by Frank Camp
“When I said we would take dead aim at the Tale of Two Cities, I meant it. And we will do it. I will honor the faith and trust you have placed in me. And we will give life to the hope of so many in our city. We will succeed as One City…Please remember, we do not ask more of the wealthy to punish success. We do it to create more success stories.” – New York Mayor, Bill de Blasio
With all the hubbub and negativity surrounding Obamacare, it seems that the Obama administration is going to try to make 2014 the year of income redistribution. Well, not quite. They’re going to make it the year on stoking the green fires of envy among the American people. However, this time, I’m not focused on Obama, but the mayor of New York City, Bill de Blasio.
Bill de Blasio represents the direction in which every Democrat wants to head. They call it progressive, but in all actuality, it’s regressive. Their agenda is to create a purely Marxist society in which everything is owned by everyone, and the government acts as mother to all. In fact, in an article for Rolling Stone called “Five Economic Reforms Millenials Should Be Fighting For,” Jesse A. Myerson says:
“Imagine a world where people could contribute the skills that inspire them – teaching, tutoring, urban farming, cleaning up the environment, painting murals – rather than telemarketing or whatever other stupid tasks bosses need done to supplement their millions. Sounds nice, doesn’t it?“
In his article, Myerson lists and explains these five economic reforms as such: Guaranteed work for everybody, Social security for all, Take back the land, Make everything owned by everybody, A public bank in every state.
What Myerson writes may seem insane on paper, but it truly represents the Democrat ideal. Ask any Liberal what our government’s responsibilities are, and should be, and they will tell you a litany of things that aren’t expressed in our constitution. The problems with this ideal are many. First, and really most obvious, is that these ideas have been tried many times before, and every single time, they have failed miserably. Whether the state gains too much power, leading to massive corruption and oppression, or the state fails because of financial collapse, Marxist philosophies never work.
Marxism doesn’t work because its central conceit is flawed. You can’t build a house with fractured bricks. But the idea of an “equal” society is so beguiling that proponents of Marxism disregard the past, believing themselves to be better than those who tried before. This belief is rooted in what I call “Historian complex.” Liberals believe that the here and now is always better than the yesterday. They call themselves Progressive because it represents their understanding of the world: tomorrow is inherently better than today, simply by virtue of time passing.
This belief leads to the development of the historian complex. Because I know history, I can best it. I’m smarter than they, because I have the benefit of knowing their failures. This theory combines knowledge with intelligence, equalizing them in a way that is dangerous. When in reality, knowledge and intelligence are very different things, Liberals think of them as one and the same. They believe that because they know more in terms of bulk data, they are more intelligent than those who came before.
This complex has infected the minds of the leaders of the Left, but they know that to get Americans on board with their insane project, they must deceive them. That is why de Blasio amended his statement with “Please remember, we do not ask more of the wealthy to punish success. We do it to create more success stories.” When, in truth, taking excessive money from the wealthy is a punishment for success, the Left cannot say that. They must spin it as something noble.
Marxism doesn’t work! It stifles individuality, and corrupts government. It gives the Feds far too much power, and it kills the economy. But it is an ideal that sticks. It sticks because of arrogance. Arrogance mixed in a sick cocktail with ignorance has created the new wave of popular Marxists. Obama, de Blasio, all of them are riding the Millennial upswing of Marxism.
I have nothing to say but this: look at historic examples. Every attempt at Marist states has failed. Every attempt has led to genocide, mass murder, political corruption on an extraordinary scale, oppression of citizens, poverty, and collapse. It doesn’t work, not because of the intelligence of its operators, but because the theory itself is broken.
Over the next several years, the stoking of envy will become excessive, to the point of being oppressive. I hope we break this downward spiral before we end up like every other country before us that has tried to build a utopia. If we don’t, get ready for an unpleasant ride down crap mountain. Bill de Blasio is the first in a frightening line of openly Marxist leaders.
