AOLIt’s a pretty common practice for churches to ask members to donate spare change to help the needy or improve the parish.
But one pastor in Atlanta was asking for $300 or more in donations from 200,000 people – that’s $60 million – for a private jet.
Televangelist Creflo Dollar of World Changers Church International posted a video and set up a donation page on his website last week, searching for funding for that private jet. Dollar said he’d use the aircraft to travel the globe and spread the gospel.
The exact jet Dollar was seeking is a Gulfstream G650, which has a price tag of about $65 million. Bloomberg describes it as “the holy grail of jets.”
But Dollar has now supposedly backed away from that attempt after the backlash he received from the post.
The video originally posted by the church was pulled sometime Friday night.
That doesn’t mean you can’t still donate to the World Changers Church or to Dollar. The donation option for the G650 Project is still available on the website.
Dollar is already a multi-millionaire. His net worth sits around $27 million according to The Richest.
“God’s been good to me, you understand,” Dollar preaches.
“Good enough that he owns a metro-Atlanta mansion so popular that pictures of it are passed around on the Internet,” WAGA reporter Art Franklin says.
“Creflo Dollar also owns several expensive cars, including a Rolls Royce,” Franklin continues.
Dollar, for now, will have to get by with his old private jet the church gave him in 1999.
