Robber’s pointy stick no match for store owner’s pistol

KOMO News – by Michael Harthorne

SEATTLE — The occasional truth behind the popular saying “Don’t bring a knife (or, in this case a pointy metal stick) to a gun fight” was demonstrated at a South Seattle business last Tuesday.

According to the Seattle Police Department’s report for the incident, officers showed up at the business in the 2300 block of Rainier Avenue South after reports of an armed robbery only to find the store’s owner standing with his foot on the handcuffed suspect.

Apparently, the store’s owner and his girlfriend had been sitting in the business’ lobby around 6 p.m. when they saw a man wearing gloves and holding a pointed metal stick walk up, look through the window and pull a bandanna over his face.

According to the report, the man walked into the business and demanded money, at which point the store’s owner pulled out a pistol and handcuffed and detained the suspect while his girlfriend called 911.

Officers booked the suspect into King County Jail for investigation of robbery and made sure the store owner’s concealed pistol license was up to date.
