Thunder and lightning: For centuries mankind’s been amazed as well as terrified at the threatening beauty of nature’s fury. But these days it’s actually been domesticated, and now we can even throw a thunderbolt at the push of a button, as Ilya Petrenko reports.

  1. I guess the Iron Curtain will be up and running again soon. Reminds me of the video game, “Command and Conquer: Red Alert”.

  2. Who builds something so elaborate just for testing? It’s been around long before any testing we are being told about. One wonders what the real reason is for this contraption?
    . . .

  3. it generates a localised EMP,
you can use it for testing aircraft, missiles, tanks, trucks etc to make sure they are properly shielded.

      1. none,
it’s for making sure your “STUFF” can work in a nuclear war situation!

if the stuff isnt shielded you could shut down an entire army with one small blast in the air near the war zone.

think of this setup as the closest test you could get to actual ww3.

i know what your getting at, but this is actually probably the most powerfull tool they have.
they can use it to develop weapons that dont effect them – but may effect the enemy.
(assuming the u.s., china, the u.k. etc dont have similar testing sites)

it’s probably in an empty forrest so the tree’s block the energy before it jams people’s tv’s and fries computers.

BTW, it was probably built in the 1950’s
so it was part of the cold war buildup.

  4. and the other reason for making something like that is why the heck not…. i have built smaller tesla coils and such and even threw a few blue arcs thee size of a pencil about 3ft across the table.. id be giggling with that thing running…lol..

like what doc off of back to the future said “121gigawatts? great scott!!!”
