Unarmed man with pants down fatally shot by Harris County deputy

Video obtained by the Houston Chronicle captures the killing of an apparently unarmed man who was shot by a Harris County Sheriff’s Office deputy in the Greater Greenspoint area Thursday.

The Houston Police Department confirmed Friday that Danny Ray Thomas, 34, died after the deputy — who has not been named — fired one shot at him around 1 p.m. in the 17600 block of Imperial Valley Road.

Sheriff’s Office spokesman Jason Spencer said Thursday that no weapon was recovered at the scene.

Witnesses said Thomas was “walking in the middle of the intersection of Imperial Valley and Greens Road with his pants around his ankles, talking to himself and hitting vehicles as they passed by,” according to a press release Friday from HPD, which is leading the investigation because the shooting occurred within city limits.

“Thomas then struck a white vehicle, and the driver exited and engaged in a physical altercation with the suspect,” Houston Police said. The deputy saw the altercation and stopped his car.

HPD said Thomas ignored verbal commands from the deputy and “continued to advance” toward him.

“Fearing for his safety, the deputy discharged his duty weapon, striking Thomas once in the chest, ” Houston Police said.

  1. I feared for my life may be a get out of jail free card, but it should also be the kiss of death to LEO’s career. If you fear for your life in the normal performance of your duties, you are not qualified to carry a badge and a gun, for any outfit, anywhere.

    1. The way these kinds of events are happening all over the country, it seems to me like they’ve been told to shoot anyone who disobeys them, and cover their asses later with the “feared for my life” routine.

They kill anyone they want to these days, and regardless of the details, the courts and their bosses always cover for them. They’ve been given a “license to kill” anyone, especially anyone who exercises their rights. They’re blatantly beating and shooting the population into submission now, and the law doesn’t matter anymore.

    2. Bam!!
You nailed it right there. If they are ‘ascared of their own shadow, then they have no place as security.
If I had to smash every piece of glass I was supposed to install because it could harm me, my business might suffer from that. I wouldn’t get a paid vacation. I wouldn’t get memorials erected in my honor of my bravery, for saving lives by smashing glass. I wouldn’t be in business long at all. In fact, without loads of government assistance, I’d never have gotten the chance to go to a foriegn country to learn how to smash glass so that my tactics are specially honed for the homeland operations.

  3. 911 recording.

    [Officer]…

Driver…. put your hands on your head.
Step away from the vehicle. ..and drop your pants to your….ankles.

Oh… hang on a second…..I got things out of order.

Driver….drop your pants to your ankles…
Put your hands on your head and step away from the vehicle.

Internal affairs found the murder justified.

Stating that when instructed to place his hands on his head after dropping his drawers.

    The suspect grabbed his dick.

In which the officer considered it a threat.

    Case closed.

  4. What is the “death by cops” up to now on this March 24th? Another squirrelly cop fears for his life!
