Wow: Nearly All Americans Living Paycheck-to-Paycheck

Charleston Voice

The economy isn’t getting better and the unemployment numbers we keep seeing are far from accurate. According to CNN Money, 76 percent of Americans are living paycheck-to-paycheck.

Roughly three-quarters of Americans are living paycheck-to-paycheck, with little to no emergency savings, according to a survey released by Bankrate.com Monday.

Fewer than one in four Americans have enough money in their savings account to cover at least six months of expenses, enough to help cushion the blow of a job loss, medical emergency or some other unexpected event, according to the survey of 1,000 adults. Meanwhile, 50% of those surveyed have less than a three-month cushion and 27% had no savings at all.

“It’s disappointing,” said Greg McBride, Bankrate.com’s senior financial analyst. “Nothing helps you sleep better at night than knowing you have money tucked away for unplanned expenses.”

Even more disappointing; The savings rates have barely changed over the past three years, even though a larger percentage of consumers report an increase in job security, a higher net worth and an overall better financial situation.

Meanwhile, a new Rasmussen Report shows the majority want the government to cut spending in order to spur economic growth. Source

  1. Funny why it is all of these bastards that are making a six figure income that seems to know how to fix the problem but nothing never seems to get done unless it is in some over the seas third world country. Talk is cheap, and they are all cheap.

  2. It would be a step up for me to be able to live paycheck to paycheck. The few hours a week I get working part time (the only work I could find in this area) doesn’t even come close to covering the bills. Savings is something I had in the past but three and a half years of unemployment wiped that out. The “economic recovery” the mainstream media is always proclaiming in the biggest crock of shit next to the ponzi scheme known as the Federal Reserve.

    1. Aw man Sunfire, I realy wish I could do something for ya. I am in the same boat as you are prety much. I am in prety deep though myself.

        1. We all gotta hang tight Angel and stick together. I`m trying the best I can. I am lucky though `cause I`m in the country, bought and paid for – but not owned. 🙂 still trying to get something going tthough. Amazing that nobody around my area wants to get something started though. If ya`ll know what I mean.

  3. Check to check. Saving money is a thing of the past for me.

Not expecting better anytime soon, either.

  4. couldnt find work(over skilled and under paid) so i started my own business. talk about being broke… Now the state and feds are all “gimme gimme” and Im all “what have you ever done FOR me?” Just a matter of time till they fade into the past. My skills are real and their money and power are faith based.
