WWII Vets Knock Over Shutdown Barrier to Visit Memorial

Leo Shane IIIThe Washington Free Beacon

A group of World War II veterans in an Honor Flight group Tuesday knocked over barriers imposed during the government shutdown at the WWII Memorial in Washington, D.C., to get inside.

As part of the federal government shutdown, national parks are closed. But the group of veterans continued to the monument Tuesday, as reported by Stars and Stripes reporter Leo Shane:

Update: WFB staff writer Lachlan Markay arrived at the WWII Memorial, where a second group of Iowa vets (in yellow shirts) have also arrived at the memorial. Park police are letting all vets through, according to Shane.

“We’re looking about how to deal with this in the future,” Park Police spokeswomanCarol Johnson said Tuesday.

  1. I’m sure that a pimply faced Park Officer pissed his pants when a hundred grisseled war vets arrived and took control. Three cheers for the vets.

  2. These veterans have EVERY RIGHT to do just that.
    These memorials are THEIRS !
Not to mention they’re outside memorials…..
in the open air. which can never really close anyway.
Where they are NEVER to be without access…
    to ANYONE ….for ANY REASON….EVER !
This is just anther example of the Communists poking
their wretched finger in the eyes of all who oppose them.
When they stick their finger in my face…
    they’ll be drawing back a nub !

    They just don’t know it ….YET !

  3. Wow! Orderly conduct in the absence of government. Going about their “business as usual” without the government. Hmm. Who’d have thought…(sarcasm)

    1. I doubt there is one in the whole US congress
      The US Supreme Court
Certainly not the WH, nor the justice dept, the fbi the cia and all the rest of gov commies…..homeland security and so forth,
who could or would go do what had to be done
in WW2….to stop the germans from landing on our shores and
attempting to take physical control of our country
And these people, yet surviving, members of our last generation who did just that…went and endured the long fight…to retain our country are there remembering……..there tasks and suffering……..WOW…
This Present Day Government Stinks every Stinking Day…they do anything……..they can’t even show up for work………DISGUSTING…

  4. All the national parks belong to us anyway. All the gov depts I was
hoping would close are still up and running. These are the terrorist
depts. One doesn’t have to ask for permission to visit what is already
    theirs. Cheers to the Vets.

  5. Good for the vets.
There is no person in america that should stand in the way
of vets honoring their memories and service.

  6. Total bull crap
THESE PARKS BELONG TO ALL OF US
Not some entity that has decided they are the overlord of all things public and private.
I am of a mind to go and open up the national parks over here, they are the property pf the people, not the bureaucracy.
