Two people have been killed after a news helicopter crashed on top of at least three vehicles outside Seattle Center Tuesday morning and caught fire. A third person was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

The crash happened in the 400 block of Broad Street next to Fisher Plaza, which is home to KOMO-TV.  

KOMO confirmed that it is their helicopter. The helicopter was being used in a joint partnership between KOMO and KING 5.

The Seattle Fire Department tweeted that two people were killed at the scene. A 37-year-old man has been taken to Harborview Medical Center in critical condition. That man was in one of the cars, but managed to pull himself out.

  1. if I had to give it my best guess ..Id say hydraulic failure to the rotor, pump froze ,seized or sheared the drive to it.
    if your too high or too crowded, (everything around him, his concern to try and not land on it if he even can land it) its not usually a good turn out.
    my condolences to the fellow pilots family, and any who got killed or harmed from this.
    most of my skills are in fixed wing, but have some rotary time, very non forgiving equipment
