4 Jersey City cops indicted on dozens of charges, authorities say

Four current and former Jersey City police officers have been indicted on numerous charges, including official misconduct and falsifying records.

Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office confirmed that a grand jury handed up indictments against retired Capt. Joseph Ascolese, Lt. Kelly Chesler, Police Officer Michael Maietti and Police Officer Michael O’Neil.

News12 was first to report the news this afternoon.

Ray Worrall, a media relations officer for the HCPO, said the officers were indicted on more than 100 counts of conspiracy, falsifying records, official misconduct and pattern of official misconduct.

The News12 report noted that the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office had been investigating whether some Jersey City police officers were paid for no-show off-duty work in connection with the Pulaski Skyway project.

The News12 report said the indictments also stemmed from excessive overtime and the violation of a city policy that prohibits or restricts the use of take-home vehicles.

“We have taken an aggressive approach to root out corruption that has plagued Jersey City for decades as this is the second high-profile case we initiated ourselves through the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office,” Jersey City Mayor Steve Fulop said. “Today’s 100-count indictment speaks to the extensive nature of the abuse by these individuals. We are thankful for the partnership with the HCPO and we will continue to change the culture by rooting out employees who take advantage of the public trust.”

Last July the city said it initiated an investigation at the Jersey City Incinerator Authority that resulted in a handful of arrests.

  1. “4 Jersey City cops indicted on dozens of charges, authorities say”

Yeah. Sure. I’ll believe that when I believe 50 fagots where killed in Orlando.
Stay tuned for another exciting episode of Just-Us Theater when Sheriff Dorkbrain says ” Hey, anybody want some donuts?”

  2. The bosses didn’t like these cops for one reason or another, so they’re thrown to the dogs to convince the public that cops are equally subject to being imprisoned as the rest of us.

The same bosses will turn a blind eye to cop murder, rape, and robbery, if it’s done by cops they like. (good soldiers)
