Americans Are More Afraid of Being Tortured By Our Government than British, Australians, Canadians … Or Even Chinese

Zero Hedge – by George Washington

Amnesty International conducted a global survey to find out how afraid people were of being tortured by their own governments if they are taken into custody.

The survey shows that the British, Australian, Canadian – and even Chinese people – are less afraid of being tortured than Americans.

Specifically, Amnesty asked whether people agreed with the following statement:

If I were taken into custody by the authorities in my country, I am confident that I would be safe from torture

Here are some of the results:

Also stunning, Amnesty found that most Americans believe that torture is never justified.

Specifically, Amnesty asked whether people agreed with the following statement:

Torture is sometimes necessary and acceptable to gain information that may protect the public

53% of Americans disagreed with that statement, and only 45% agreed:

Indeed, majorities in all but 5 countries say torture is never acceptable:

Given that it is universally known by top interrogation experts that torture interferes with the ability to extract actionable intelligence from the detainee and decreases national security, it is good that people are starting to wake up to the reality that torture is never acceptable.

Postscript: Multiple polls show that Americans are more afraid of our own government than of terrorists.  Given that the American government has gone somewhat rogue, and that Americans are afraid that they may be tortured if taken into custody, trust in the government will likely only continue to decrease.

  1. Things will never change untill the ptb, the polititions, the cops and all those on the gov. pay role are held to the same standard as those of us so called “little people” here in america. We all got to level the playing field before things change dang it.

    1. I see what you are saying there!…………thing is! Don’t know how that is done. Violence, unless in self defense, doesn’t achieve that…History points to…the situation has mostly been there all along….Give UP? Hell No….Would i, Could I….and call into play, all the thought power of people living today…..I would direct them to their own sense of LOVE…it’s concept, its meaning to each person, individually, and ask that be the beginning point….or redemption of mankind…..
These thoughts and words are not often heard anywhere in our today, world……I personally, refuse to quit……in this regard…of it being possible…….to achieve………a goal of PEACE………

      1. Yep 🙂 rbeason, I know what you are sayin. I have tried the passive way for many years and it didn`t work, they stil mess up both my knees 30 + years ago for nothing more than sitting on the beach for the 4th of july fire works – I had to forget about the problems I had with the cops and trying to do something about it. I was actually told that I better leave the area if I knew what was good for me from the county sherrif and I was gone within the month. Yea I know from personal experience what they will do to a guy – especially when the guy is non-violent. Nope there is no dealing with or rationalizing with a damned cop.

  2. Love and good vibes do work, but not on psychopaths. That is why they need to be removed from power, rounded up and sent somewhere where they cannot harm humanity and can eat each other.
