PORTLAND, Ore. — The leader of the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge takeover returned to Oregon Friday.
Ammon Bundy was booked into the Multnomah County Jail just before 7 p.m.
He’s expected to be called as a defense witness in the second trial stemming from the refuge occupation. Fellow occupier Ryan Payne is also in Portland and is expected to testify next week.
Federal prosecutors are close to resting their case against the four defendants.
Bundy was acquitted along with five other in the first trial last year. He’s been in custody in Las Vegas over a 2014 standoff with the government.
