College Fix – by Andrew Johnson

As colleges across the country struggle with questions related to free speech on campuses, some schools have implemented policies that appear to give administrators significant latitude to discipline students for speaking in unpopular ways.

Most recently, the dean’s office of Utah Valley University, a public institution located in the north-central part of Utah, distributed a guidance letter to all faculty encouraging them to report to the school’s Behavior Assessment Team any students who use “inappropriate language,” are “argumentative,” or who speak “loudly.”  Continue reading “Professors told to report students who make campus ‘less inclusive’ to Behavior Assessment Team”

Karl Marx’s vision of communism is a utopian society of “to each according to his needs, from each according to his abilities”.

By that measure, New York mayor Bill de Blasio, aka Warren Wilhelm Jr., is through and through a communist.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a surprise attack on cash in late 2016. He gave Indians a few days to convert the two largest denomination bills then circulating to bank deposits, after which point any undeposited notes would become worthless. The move was intensely controversial. Transactions completed using cash represented the vast majority of economic activity in the country.

In order to sell the program Modi employed a familiar strategy. He vilified the users of cash as tax cheats and criminals. He promised the measure would punish black marketeers, boost the Indian economy, and increase tax revenues. The latter may be true – forcing transactions onto the grid is good for nosy bureaucrats trying to impose taxes and controls.   Continue reading “War On Cash Backfires On India’s Economy”

Two stained-glass windows honoring Confederate Gens. Robert E. Lee and Thomas “Stonewall” Jackson at the Washington National Cathedral will be removed immediately, the cathedral says.

The facility’s leadership says the decision came after long deliberations on an important question: “Are these windows, installed in 1953, an appropriate part of the sacred fabric of a spiritual home for the nation?”   Continue reading “National Cathedral Is Removing Stained-Glass Windows Honoring Confederate Leaders”

There is a strong correlation between immigration—particularly illegal immigration—and wages.

The reason is simple — the economic principle of supply and demand. In the case of immigration, that means the more supply of workers, the lower the wages.

But liberal economists and proponents of mass immigration see immigration as an absolute economic good, insisting that immigration is necessary for the economy to grow. (Click here for the three reasons why liberals are wrong.)   Continue reading “Evidence that immigration depresses wages: U.S. & UK”
