Authorities in frantic search as couple kills three women, critically wounds another in Florida and Alabama

New York Daily News – by David Boroff

A murderous couple remains on the loose after killing three women and critically wounding another in two states over the last week, authorities say.

A multistate search enters its second week for William “Billy” Boyette, 44, and 37-year-old Mary Rice, who cops say most recently shot a young mother during a home invasion in Florida on Monday. Kayla Crocker, 28, of Pensacola was hospitalized in critical condition, according to the Pensacola News Journal.

Crocker’s white Chevrolet Cobalt was stolen and video surveillance confirmed Boyette and Rice took the car to a nearby Shell station and ate at a Hardee’s restaurant not long after the attack, according to authorities.

Authorities believe Boyette and Rice are responsible for the deaths of Alicia Greer, 30, and Jacqueline Jeanette Moore, 39. Their bodies were found at the Emerald Sands Inn in nearby Milton on Jan. 31.

“This man murdered my daughter so bad, and shot her so bad, that we cannot have an open casket for her. I can’t even see my daughter one more time ever again,” Greer’s mother Kim Layne told Fox 10.

The couple then allegedly killed Peggy Broz in Lillian, Alabama, on Friday and swiped her car as well before returning to Florida.

Boyette had been in a relationship with Greer, but did not know any of the other victims, according to the News Journal. Greer had pressed charges against Boyette, who has a long history of arrests, according to Fox 10.

“On Facebook, they acted like they were so in love,” Kim Layne told Fox 10. “Then two weeks ago, she called me and said, ‘Mom I’m at the hospital.’ So I go up there and she’s got a black eye, busted lip, cut on her head, cut on her forehead, bruises everywhere. So he beat her. He kicked her in the mouth and knocked her out. When she came to, he stole her car.”

Rice had previously been considered a person of interest in the attacks, but on Monday she was upgraded to an official suspect. Investigators say she had many chances to leave or ask for help, and she has been spotted on surveillance video entering stores on her own. She is now facing capital murder charges in the slaying of Broz, according to Fox 10.

Agencies across the Panhandle and southern Alabama are searching for the suspects, and a Florida official urged caution to anyone who spots them. A local Florida sheriff’s office has doubled the number of deputies on patrol.

Authorities have intensified their search for Boyette and Rice.

“In short we have a killer, he is in our midst,” said Escambia County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Chip Simmons. “Everyone, and I mean everyone, should be aware of this, should be aware of what they look like.”

Boyette has a history of drug trafficking and is known to be a heavy user of the drug Spice, according to Escambia County Sheriff David Morgan.

“When you go to work, when you come home, make sure a friend or family member knows where you are …, ” Morgan said. He added that “we’re dealing with an extreme situation here.”

  1. Don’t even bring these two to justice. Shoot them in the head where ever found. Leave them in a ditch like road kill.

  2. “In short we have a killer, he is in our midst,” said Escambia County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Chip Simmons.”

We have a MULTITUDE of killers in our midst.

    They’re called PIGS.

That aside, I hope these two pukes get into a gun battle with the pigs when they catch up to them… and take out a few before they get theirs.
