With Ballistic Missile Radar, U.S. Opens First Permanent Military Base in Israel

Haaretz – by Amos Harel

The first permanent U.S. military base in Israel was dedicated on Monday.
A few dozen American soldiers will live and work on the base, situated inside the school of the Aerial Defense Division of the Israel Air Force, in the Negev. High-ranking U.S. officers attended the dedication ceremony.

Brig. Gen. Zvi Haimovich, the commander of the division, said the new base reflects the close military cooperation between Israel and the United States. He declined to elaborate on the exact activities of the American soldiers, but said, “The base is here to stay. It involved a significant allocation of resources, in the understanding that this was right and necessary and part of the United States’ assets in Israel.”

He was evidently referring to the U.S. soldiers who have been operating the X-Band radar system that the United States deployed in the Negev in 2009. The powerful system, which can detect missile launches from a distance of hundreds of kilometers away, was part of U.S. efforts to improve Israel’s defensive capabilities in the face of the growing threat from Iran.

Last week the Aerial Defense Division opened an additional Iron Dome anti-missile battalion. During the 2014 war with Hamas in the Gaza Strip, Israel deployed 10 Iron Dome batteries to intercept Hamas rockets, but this was an emergency deployment that required calling up reserve troops. Usually, a smaller number of batteries are operational at any given time.

The IDF plans to increase the number of Iron Dome batteries, while bringing in the medium-range missile defense system David’s Sling.

  1. So amerikan soldiers finally have a HQ in the stolen land of their masters. Good for them. Maybe when their massa is done eating, he’ll brush a few scraps off the table so his dogs can dine before doing his dirty work for him. We’ll get the bill for all of it, of course.

    1. Why is it that some understand this and some don’t? To some it is blatantly obvious and to others, untrue. It seems to be the issue of our day, but so many yet embrace Israel as “our greatest ally.” This division exists in me own family. Tug-o-war.

      1. I think it’s because of today’s C-Z churches, regarding perhaps 70M Amuricans. I tried going to an Evangelical church and was a couple minutes late for the men’s bible study. A nice lady from the women’s bible study escorted me back to the room where the men were meeting. She cracked the door, and I heard the word Israel. So I sat there as the pastor advocated for “poor little Israel” and the different men came forward with their supportive comments.
I lasted approximately 4 minutes, until I got up and walked out.
It’s really pathetic to see these poseurs talk about Jesus and love thy this and that, then pump for more war and dead Mooslims.

        1. I think you nailed it, Bob. I forgot about them high-paid preachers. I’m sure there are other contributing factors (media, academia), but this is certainly one of the biggest. Imagine Christ viewing this?! Talk about a message getting one-eightied.

  2. This is gr8 news.

Now our military can launch missiles at Israel without going intercontinental.

Then we can blame it on North Korea.

  3. The USA already has a base there, built with American money for Israel, in which the Israelis operate and store nuclear weapons etc. At one point no American was allowed inside of it so this announcement is merely formalizing what is already in place. THEY MUST REALLY THINK WE’RE STUPID! !

  4. “Brig. Gen. Zvi Haimovich, the commander of the division, said the new base reflects the close military cooperation between Israel and the United States.”

Israhell says ‘JUMP’, and the U.S. cooperates.
