BEDFORD, N.H. (WHDH) –Police said nothing was found after searching two Bedford, New Hampshire schools that were forced to cancel classes due to a bomb threat.

Bedford Police Chief John Byfonski says a school administrator received the bomb threat at about 6 a.m. Tuesday. He declined to say how the threat was communicated.

Classes at Bedford High School and Lurgio Middle School were cancelled for the day. The two schools are located next to each other.

“We realized two things. One, that the threat we thought was credible enough that we needed to do a thorough search amd the second is that it’s a pretty big building…we had to not have school today because the search was going to take more than half the day,” said Superintendent Chip McGee of Bedford Public Schools.

High school principal Bill Hagen says it’s likely a “very bad hoax,” but says schools were closed out of an abundance of caution.

The FBI is investigating the threats in New Hampshire, as well as similar ones in Bedford, Massachusetts and one that was called in to Franklin on Tuesday.
