Chart Shows How All 50 States Rank on Gun Ownership Compared To Nations Around the World

Crack Two

Movato Real Estate has compiled some interesting data that compared gun ownership in the 50 states with gun ownership in other countries using the methodology outlined below:

We started with a research group in Switzerland called Small Arms Survey and its report “Small Arms Survey 2007: Guns and the City.” Among other things, it estimated gun-ownership numbers for 178 countries, including the United States (which it estimates has about 270 million guns).

We then took the estimate of 88.8 guns per 100 people for the U.S.—which, seven years later, is likely higher—and used it to calculate each state’s estimated gun ownership, based on state populations from the U.S. Census Bureau’s 2010 survey. (Of course, gun-ownership density varies throughout the country, but this number gave us a easy way to come up with comparable figures for all 50 states, since actual state-to-state numbers were not available.)
Once we had the list of state numbers, we compared each one to Small Arms Survey’s list of countries and respective gun-ownership estimates, logging the nearest match.

The study revealed that:

  • California’s total of 33.08 million guns is closest to China’s 40 million
  • Texas’ total of 22.33 million guns is closest to Germany’s 25 million
  • New York’s total of 17.2 million guns is closest to Pakistan’s 18 million

  1. I find this laughable.
I do not know the actual but I think their starting numbers are way off.

Their data is based on 8 year old data in some cases. Possibly the highest recorded gun sales in the US has happened during this period. My other concern is they based each state off of population averages. We know some states have WAY more guns per capita than others.

But I dont know nor do I care much now that I think about it.

    1. Yeah, but pick any large state with this old data and there are more guns out there then US troops and DHS storm troopers combined. And ya wonder why TPTB just wont pull the pin on their crazy plan…
I really thought it would have been less guns with all the propaganda.

      1. but the problem is not the guns,
it’s the lack of people who know when to use them.

also, the “bunker mentality” is a problem.
your enemy out numbers you, so thinking a box of noodles, a tank of water and a gun in your basement is the answer – is not going to work.

being mobile and able to NOT get pinned into a location is the only way to win.

  2. Since when do civilians in China have guns? The military has them, but civilians are banned from having them. 40 million? What the hell are they talking about?
