Conservative group releases brutal anti-Trump ads featuring veterans calling him a ‘con man’

Business Insider – by Pamela Engel

Military veterans are appearing in ads released over the weekend by an outside group, hoping to stop Donald Trump from snagging the GOP presidential nomination.

The ads, from the conservative American Future Fund, feature veterans disavowing Trump’s statements about prisoners of war and end with the text: “Trump’s a phony. Stop him now.”

In one ad, former Special Forces commander Michael Waltz, who served in Afghanistan, said that Trump “hasn’t served this country a day in his life” and called him a Vietnam War draft-dodger.

“He essentially called anyone who is captured in combat a loser,” Waltz said. “It’s something that I just personally can’t stomach and am sickened by, as should every veteran and every soldier in the United States military.”

Trump, who is the clear frontrunner for the Republican nomination, criticized Arizona Sen. John McCain last year and called into question his status as a “war hero.”

“He’s not a war hero,” Trump said. “He’s a war hero because he was captured. I like people that weren’t captured.”

Trump quickly walked back that statement and agreed that McCain, a Vietnam War POW, was in fact a war hero. Trump also said that he doesn’t like “losers,” referring to McCain’s loss to President Barack Obama in the 2008 presidential election.

In another ad from American Future Fund, a retired lieutenant colonel who served in Vietnam echoed the criticisms of Trump’s statements about McCain.

“When I heard Donald Trump insult my fellow prisoners of war from Vietnam by calling us losers, that was the most infuriating comment I think I’ve heard from a politician in my entire life,” Tom Hanton said. He was a prisoner of war in Vietnam from 1972 to 1973.

“Trump would not have survived a POW experience,” Hanton said. “He would have been probably the first one to fold.”

The ads also called on voters to look into Trump’s record.

Outside groups have been ramping up spending recently as Trump continues racking up primary and caucus wins across the country. The American Future Fund has spent $2 million so far in Florida and Illinois, according to The New York Times.

  1. Sorry ain’t buying this !! There is NO information out there on who this ” American Future fund is!” They will not disclose who their principals are ,, so it appears to be just another Big money ” Slam group”

Just because someone is in the Military does not mean that they really understand what is going on or that they are NOT a part of the problem!
Obviously Ad’s ain’t cheap so there is some serious money behind this ad effort.

  2. “The billionaire Ricketts family, which owns the Chicago Cubs baseball team, is involved in one of the anti-Trump groups, Our Principles PAC, and tens of millions are now pouring into Rubio’s super-PAC Conservative Solutions PAC, much of it coming from Wall Street and a good deal of it earmarked to oppose Trump.

American Future Fund, as a ‘social welfare’ nonprofit organized under section 501(c)(4) of the tax code, is allowed to hide its donors’ identities, so it is unclear who are the main funders of its anti-Trump campaign. The AFF has previously been funded by groups affiliated with Charles and David Kochs’s donor network, but the Koch groups are understood to have pulled back on their investment in recent years.

Asked how much money the AFF was going to add to the $1.75 million it has already committed to attacking Trump in Florida, Roy said in an email, “Not sure of the dollar amount we are adding on Monday as we are literally getting money coming in as we speak.

‘It’s a moving target but in a good way.’

Before these new veterans ads launched, the AFF had been focused on portraying Trump as a business fraud due to his Trump University real estate investment school that is the subject of a lawsuit launched by former students who claim they were conned.”

    1. Interesting,… more Big”Secret” Money trying to Swiftboat Trump. I am not decided on anybody,… but I absolutely resent these big money ” Secret Donor’s trying to represent themselves” Of the People”!
As for the use of Veterans, Geeez! As a Veteran mtself, I also do not believe the Veterans being put forth! They also are a part of the ” Secret Donor” group! The should know better! There has been waaaay too much of this unknown Big Money out there both Domestic and Foreign Donors.

      1. “I am not decided on anybody,…”

        Like that’s an option?

You sound as if you believe there’s a ‘legitimate’ possibility to ‘vote’ for.

“There has been waaaay too much of this unknown Big Money out there both Domestic and Foreign Donors.”

        To quote a sorry jewb#tch…

“What difference – at this point, what difference does it make?”

If you vote, you’re partaking in the communist fraud. If you do so KNOWING it’s a fraud, you’re a traitor.

    2. WTF people? God damn, I just can’t wrap my head around how many people are actually falling for the donald dump show. This is a guy who openly supports the very zionist ideology that has taken over and destroyed america. And he knows this. He said they won’t back him because he doesn’t need their money. Some took that as he was going it alone AGAINST them. Right after that he said he would be the BEST thing for israel. He said “you might find that some of our middle eastern allies were responsible for 9/11” and some thought he was trying to expose israel. Turns out he was deflecting from israel and saying Saudis did it. He openly supports violating the bill of rights, torture and bigger government and war even though some are saying how anti war he is. Read between the lines. What the hell is so different between him and George W? I’ve said many times 9/11 should be the litmus test. When this clown goes up and says he saw thousands of muslims cheering the attacks but completely ignores that the only people arrested in connection with it were israelis and israel’s undeniable role, too much to list here, you don’t think he’s protecting americas #1 enemy from within? I hope he does become puppet in chief, so all these a$$#oles who believe in him get what they deserve, a good hard dose of reality, because it doesn’t really matter who is put in place. God damn I just can’t take the stupidity anymore. By the way, for a guy who supposedly wants the best for america and is supposed to be such a great business man, as if that’s what we need… a corporate man, and is so concerned about financial things he sure as hell doesn’t seem bothered by the BILLIONS of american tax dollars pouring into israel every year unquestioned. Let that sink in.

  3. Of course Trump’s a con-man….
Look at his history, and the folks he pals around with.
Anyone who thinks a real “man of God and the Bill of Rights” will ever be allowed to poke his head above the grass without getting it chopped off is either ignorant or stupid. Ignorance and stupidity is how we have gotten to this point in history where everything the wicked creatures who flock to power and control tell us is a lie, so I have no patience for those who hide behind it as a shield from reality. Let them be the first to feel the barbed wire when the globalists come to “segregate” the masses from the dumbasses.

  4. Of course Trump is a con man and a psychopath — but so are all his establishment detractors. LOL at the way they’re now bringing out “our troops” as their finger puppets:

*** In one ad, former Special Forces commander Michael Waltz, who served in Afghanistan, said that Trump “hasn’t served this country a day in his life” and called him a Vietnam War draft-dodger. ***

And what has Mr. Waltz ever done to “serve this country”? No doubt he’s done plenty to serve the corrupt *government* and the associated oligarchy, but that’s very different from protecting the liberties of Americans, who are now more enslaved than ever before as a result of the “War on Terror.”

Wanna do something to serve your country, Mr. Waltz? How about keeping that solemn oath you took to protect the Constitution against its enemies? Keep in mind that the Constitution’s only enemies of any consequence are domestic and are associated with local, state, and especially federal government.

As for Vietnam, back when I was growing up I believed that it was wrong and cowardly for anyone to avoid the draft for that war. Now I realize how clueless I’d been at that young age. No one has ANY duty to fight in a war other than to repel a foreign invasion or deal with another existential threat. The very fact that the US lost in Vietnam and went on to survive just fine proves that the war was pointless — and that was predictable from the very start. What were the VC going to do, invade the US?

To judge whether a war is worth fighting, there are a couple of simple questions we can ask:

    1. “Should we fight this war regardless of the number of US casualties?” In a war of necessity, the number of friendly casualties is immaterial; only winning matters, since a failure to defeat the enemy carries unthinkable consequences.

    2. “What will happen to our country if we don’t fight this war?” If the answer is something like, “Life in our country will continue on more or less as it always has,” then the war should not be fought.
