US agents have arrested 30 illegal immigrants thought to have crossed into San Diego through a cross-border smuggling tunnel from Mexico, US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) said.
The agents discovered the tunnel after encountering several people who had apparently just been smuggled into the California city, near the Otay Mesa port of entry, early Saturday, CBP said.

“US Agents searched the area and discovered a crude opening in the ground with a ladder inside and determined that is was a smuggling tunnel. The tunnel’s exit is located just north of the secondary fence in the vicinity of the Otay Mesa port of entry,” it said in a statement. “The 30 aliens are now in Border Patrol custody pending further questioning.”
CPB said the group consisted of 23 Chinese and seven Mexican nationals.
“While subterranean tunnels are not a new occurrence along the California-Mexico border, they are more commonly utilized by transnational criminal organizations to smuggle narcotics. However, as this case demonstrates, law enforcement has also identified instances where such tunnels were used to facilitate human smuggling,” it said.
The San Diego Tunnel Task Force is investigating the tunnel in coordination with law enforcement in Mexico. “Preliminarily it appears this latest tunnel may be an extension of an incomplete tunnel previously discovered and seized by Mexican authorities,” CBP said.

Boy, that was lucky, huh? Wasn’t that lucky? Just bumping into them all serendipitously like that. That’s definitely magic in the making, right there. Them agents were really on the ball.

Okay. I have a couple of problems with this paragraph. First of all, how do you go about seizing a tunnel? Do the Mexicans have some kind of magical three dimensional tunnel remover that allows them to fold it up and put it in their pocket? Did they move it to an evidence locker? Did they fill it in and post a 24 hour guard on it?
And if the Mexican authorities had already seized the tunnel, then how did the Chinese get in it to dig an extension?
I really think we need some clarification on this because I’m not so sure that the San Diego Tunnel Task Force knows what the f–k they’re talking about.
That tunnel doesn’t even look like much of a tunnel to me. You get one fat Mexican wedged in that baby and it’ll be all “Help. There’s a giant 24 year old Mexican toddler stuck in a well!” and then a great big rescue operation ensues.
I’ve seen groundhogs here in Michigan that would get stuck in that tunnel. But then, a groundhog could dig himself out.
I’m not sure why the illegals are tunneling to get here anyways. They got all them buses and planes. What do they need a tunnel for?

Okay. I’ve given this story some more thought and it seems to me that you couldn’t fit a ladder and a person in that tiny tunnel at the same time. There’s just not enough room.
I wouldn’t say it’s physically impossible, but what’s the point? They can just walk across the border. It’s not like there’s a Great Wall of Trumpa standing in their way.
They walk across, FedCo rounds them up, tags em and releases them into the wilds of North America.
Kinda like on Mutual of Omaha’s Wild Kingdom, where Marlin Perkins always stayed safe sitting in the jeep and made his assistant go out and do all the dangerous work.
This CNN story seems to me to be nothing more than propaganda designed to make Americans think there is some sort of border in existence when there quite obviously isn’t and hasn’t been for at least half a century or so.
It probably went something like “Okay. You Illegals dig this hole in the ground and then us agents will pretend like we caught you. We’re all gonna get f–king medals for this.”
