KC woman shoots would-be intruder

The Kansas City Star – by Christine Vendel

A Kansas City woman shot a would-be intruder through her back door Thursday afternoon.

The woman, believed to be in her 50s, called police shortly after noon to her home in the 10600 block of Greenwood Road.

She said a car backed into her driveway and a man knocked on her door. She didn’t recognize him, so she didn’t open the door.

Then she heard two men at her back door. She could see through her window blinds that one of them was wearing blue latex gloves and preparing to kick open the door. She fired through the door, and at least one of the men fired back into her house. The woman was not hurt.

The men then drove away.

Three minutes later, police received a 911 call from a cellphone. The caller said, “My brother’s been shot,” but didn’t provide a location.

About 12:20 p.m., a man shot in the chest showed up at Research Medical Center with two other men. Police arrested the three and questioned them about the attempted burglary and shooting.

  1. How about the story of the lady in Oregon who called 9-1-1 because her ex-boyfriend was breaking into her home, only to be told they didn’t have the funds for weekend duty for officers, and so no one would be coming to help her. The dispatch person told her to just ask him to leave??? He sexually assaulted her, after breaking in. Where was her home self-defense weapon?? Had she blown him away when he broke in, she wouldn’t have had to go thru this. And it just shows ya that to call 9-1-1 is just a waste of time in most cases. They only get there to write up a report. This article was posted on Activist Post. I keep my 12 gauge close by my side. And there will be REAL blood spilt.

    1. Paula, I live in Josephine County, Oregon where this happened. Here’s why I just voted “no” AGAIN on Tuesday this week on a levy to fund the sheriff department:

A few years back a trespasser (who was looking for dirt to use against an environmental organization which was blocking a federal land giveaway in a pristine watershed for an open-pit nickel mine) spotted four marijuana plants on communally owned land. The plants were cultivated by the husband of an old friend and former employee of mine, a woman who could have won the “sweetest old hippie lady in the world” title.

Within hours the sheriff’s department mounted a full-scale military assault with many black-clad, assault rifle-armed deputies on my friend’s tiny home in the woods, arrested her just because she was the one home at the time, threw her in jail overnight, and the DA raked her over the coals for the next year.

As long as police departments in this country have resources for this kind of state-sponsored hate crime against a cultural minority, they don’t deserve another dime of our money.

I also agree that the woman who was raped absolutely should have had a self-defense firearm and know how to use it. This county is so big that even with unlimited funding, the cops can almost never get to a crime scene in time to prevent it. It’s a fact of life that you must be ready to defend yourself. Under the best of circumstances a normal response time in rural areas would give the perps enough time to complete the crime and be halfway to the California border before someone with a badge could show up.

      1. Tom-Thanks for the details about your area. I agree-I have almost NO use for the folks in uniforms. And I so agree with what Henry says about our freedoms. As long as we are causing NO harm to anyone else, we should be free to do as we please. These SWAT team raids are way over the limit of what these LEOs should be doing. I think they get their jollies by coming in and shooting people’s dogs. Since my son died at 34, our dogs are like our family-and they’re just as important to me as a police dog is to them. And they will be defended to the death also.
