Lawmaker Withdraws “Worst Homeschool Bill in U.S. History”

Lawmaker backs down on “worst Homeschool bill in history”.  State Sen. Capri Cafaro released this statement Friday:

“SB 248 was never meant to be a policy debate about educating children in the home. It was meant to address weaknesses in the law pertaining to child protection. Unfortunately, the true intent of the bill to curtail child abuse has been eclipsed the by the issue of homeschooling.

After consultation with Teddy’s family, we have collectively decided the best course of action is for me to withdraw SB 248, and instead pursue a more comprehensive approach to address the current challenges in the state’s social service and criminal justice system.”

“It is our hope that this new focus will bring the discussion back to where it was always intended to be: protecting children. I am requesting field hearings to address the impact of current law, government agencies and nonprofit organizations on child welfare in Ohio.  I will not include any content related to education in the home in a new bill, or in any other bill.”

According to station WKBN  She said she will make a formal motion on the Senate floor when they return after Jan. 1.

  1. The rubber lipped POS was and IS lying! It was meant to come at the Home Schoolers through a side swipe attack. In the process giving Child Pervert suck-ubuses the chance to grab MORE children for the queer/pervert industry. Keep an eye on this and see IF it is withdrawn in January. Remember, they lie. Their logic is the people effected will just go back to sleep. Liberty 1775 MGK/GDW!

  2. So in other words, the Homeschool bill is about taking your children away and proving that you are an unfit parent to teach or hire someone to teach your own kid.

Just call it what it is, Sen. Cafaro. Stop beating around the bush. It’s the same bill that Hitler passed in Germany and Austria during WWII and if the parents don’t comply then their child is taken away and the parents are taken outback and executed.

Yes, go back to your office and find a way to take our children away under the guise of “protecting them”. I thought this was about Homeschool? How did this get turned into a security issue? Get back on track or find another job, you idiot! Stop using a problem to create another problem that doesn’t exist.

By the way, who decided that the children needed protection by the government in the first place? I sure as hell didn’t get the memo? Why wasn’t I informed about this? You seem to be throwing out a bill and making up your own that has nothing to do with Homeschool and without the consent of the people. Who made you the king? We the people decide, NOT you.

  3. they probably got so much resistance to this that they decided to go about it another way, or make sure it’s done less publicly when they re-introduce it.

  4. I wonder just what it is that causes some politicians to introduce the most ridiculous bills…I mean really…sometimes I think that a personal vendetta or something personal went into formulating these stupid bills. Did some homeschooling mom once insult Cafaro or what? Did some clearly smarter homeschooled child once call Cafaro’s public schooled kid or relative an idiot? But of course…it’s the money. Cafaro probably makes millions (I mean don’t all politicians make millions?) from textbook publishers that homeschoolers refuse to use, so she’s pissed at homeschoolers….
