While the emotional repercussions of war aren’t easy to measure, the before, during, and after pictures of soldiers who have seen combat tell a pretty unsettling story.

A picture is worth a thousand words.
Well they all look like they lost about ten pounds from eating (or refusing to eat) army food, but other than that, I don’t see anything very “mesmerizing” here. Other than the weight loss, I don’t see any change at all.
It’s in the eyes … more stress, less life, more serious or guarded. The “soul” light in the eyes is dimmer. It’s easier to see for me in most, but not all of them. Just don’t pop your bubble gum near ’em.
. . .
Yep, I can see it too Cathleen. they remind me of people that just got out of prison.
God damn, brother, put your glasses on. Not only can I see it, but I can feel it. These men have been through a living nightmare.
It’s basically:
Before pictures: Show them young, healthy and spirited
During pictures: Show them skinny and hardened from war
After pictures: Show the traumatizing effects with their eyes and face looking like a ghost or someone who is still in psychological shock and anxiety from the stress of it all or what they call PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder)
To me their eyes seem much more alert during and then very numb and absent after
