Obama to Issue More Executive Actions on Gun Control After Navy Yard Shooting

Town Hall – by Katie Pavlich

We knew this was coming. Yesterday, before launching into a highly politicized speech in which he berated Republicans, President Barack Obama took a moment to address the rampage carried out by madman Aaron Alexis at the Navy Yard in Washington D.C.

“We are confronting yet another mass shooting,” Obama said.

Just a few short months ago, gun control legislation died in the Senate (thanks to a lack of votes from Democrats) after politicians like Senator Diane Feinstein and New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg overreached with their gun control goals.

Regardless, President Obama isn’t letting a good crisis go to waste, and will beissuing more executive actions on gun control according to White House Press Secretary Jay Carney.

In the wake of the shooting at the Navy Yard, Obama spokesman Jay Carney said the president is implementing executive actions and reiterated his commitment to strengthening gun laws, including expanding background checks to sales online and at gun shows.

“The president supports, as do an overwhelming majority of Americans, common-sense measures to reduce gun violence,” Carney said.

So, would new gun control actions like expanded background checks have prevented what happened yesterday in Washington? The answer is a resounding, no.

Alexis entered Washington D.C. with a firearm, entered the Navy Yard with a firearm, stole multiple firearms off of police officers and murdered a dozen people. All of these actions are illegal.

More on that from NRO’s Charles C.W. Cooke:

Indeed, in preparing for his spree, Aaron Alexis quite literally followed Joe Biden’s advice: He went out and bought an uncontroversial shotgun from a reputable, licensed dealer and subjected himself successfully to a federal background check. So routine was this purchase, it should be noted, that it could have been made legally in England or in France.

None of the usual political language applies here. Alexis, who killed twelve people, did not buy a weapon “from a friend” or “over the Internet” or in the “parking lot of a gun show”; he did not have a “high capacity” magazine from which to “spray” bullets around; he did not buy a “military style” “assault weapon” — nor even use one; he did not deploy “armor-piercing bullets.” Instead, he bought a shotgun that almost nobody is openly suggesting should be banned or controlled. Politicians and public figures who call for new laws in the wake of this shooting will thus need nailing to the wall with a simple and reliable question: “What exactly do you propose doing, and how specifically would it have changed what happened at the Navy Yard?” When I have asked this question of non-journalists on Twitter, I have received a common — refreshingly honest — answer: “A gun ban.”

Sure, Alexis legally purchased a shotgun in Virginia, but he also passed the federal NICS background check. With a history of violence, how did that happen?

Texas records show that Alexis was arrested Sept. 4, 2010, for allegedly discharging a firearm at his Fort Worth home. He told police was cleaning a gun in his apartment when it accidentally went off, according to a statement from the Tarrant County district attorney’s office.

Authorities initially filed charges, but those charges were later dropped — therefore not preventing Alexis from passing a federally-required criminal background check, an official said.

As in most cases, the Justice system failed, Alexis wasn’t prosecuted and gun laws already on the books were not enforced.

Despite these facts, leave it to the most anti-gun President in history to use law-abiding citizens as a scapegoat for his anti-Second Amendment, gun ban agenda.

  1. FOR CRYIN’ OUT LOUD, WHAT ABOUT THE OTHER SHOOTERS???!!!!

I want to know about them. I already know about Aaron Alexis. I want to know about the other 3 or 4 shooters helping him. Why are we not reporting that?

GRR!!! How can people be so stupid? When the story first came out the MSM news outlets CLEARLY said in their articles that there were at least 3 or 4 shooters.

WHAT HAPPENED TO THEM??? Do your job, MSM! Report! REPORT! Enough with Aaron Alexis already.

Damn these Communists reporters! Oh well, I guess it’s up to the alternative news outlets to do the investigating again that the MSM fails to do because they are paid NOT to do.

    1. yes………that’s for alt-news…
      thats my basis
for asking for ideas to …..go in the back door…
to some people in power…whom are going as you just did
GRRRR! those in power are not all on this guy’s side….who does he say he is…………President?
I don’t call him that…..haven’t for 98% time he has claimed to be…
The other 2% was busy doing other things….
This country can be reclaimed from this mad man…
      Ideas……….Ideas……….list here….

        1. this republic has been a struggle since it began….its longer, and some would say, more profound but not new….right now!
We are revolting….we are not walking out the door just now to shoot people…in this regard.
You say Revolt…….then give me ideas regarding the internet to be used to go into the back door of this C takeover….
          if you have none Ok
The word Revolt does not say much….

          1. Go back in American History and you might find a hint there.I don’t think they had an internet then though. If you don’t understand the meaning of revolt that might help! There comes a time when a keyboard isn’t going to work anymore and real action will be required or you could just submit, the choice will be your to make.

  2. Notice in the Yahoo search here,

    http://search.yahoo.com/search;_ylt=A0oG7kSKtjhSrCAAqnJXNyoA?p=navy+yard+shooting&ei=UTF-8&fr=yfp-t-145&xargs=0&pstart=1&b=11&xa=FesydzZOzYspJqpTKIBqXw–,1379534858

    you see an article titled,

“13 dead in Navy Yard shooting; 1 suspect dead, 1 sought …”

but when you click on the link to the article, the title all of a sudden changes to,

“13 dead in Navy Yard shooting, including gunman”

with no mention of the “1 sought”.

Are we covering up the truth again? I think so!

  3. I could care less how many executive orders the Imposter In Chief writes -they are only worth the paper he writes them on, just like the fiat “money”.

          1. Yea, even though they money laundry all the time, I’m sure the stench and mark from their ass is still there on the bill. Yuck!
