The Daily Sheeple – by Melissa Dykes
While it may be one of the most abundant natural resources on the planet, clean water is getting harder and harder to come by these days.
Australia Greens MP Jeremy Buckingham says fracking should be banned as a “global threat” to our water supply, and to prove his point, he literally took a lighter and set a river contaminated by fracking on fire.
In the past, people have been able to set their tap water on fire due to fracking contamination, but never a whole river.
Watch:
The Condamine River, situated near a fracking site, is apparently so contaminated by wastewater that the surface burst into flames when a lighter was put to it.
Crusading for a moratorium on fracking, Buckingham told RT:
“This gas is leaking out of the ground because of the fracking. They have thousands of gas wells around this river, around this site. They drill, they frack, but the gas isn’t just flowing up their gas wells, it’s coming through the ground,” he said, stressing that Origin Energy company, that operate the wells, “should be condemned for polluting one of our most important rivers.”
Buckingham said the world should be “terrified” that the practice of fracking is spreading, putting humanity’s clean drinking water in peril.
