A police officer who was shot Saturday night during a traffic stop in Mooresville, N.C., has died, according to reports.
K9 Officer Jordan Harris Sheldon, 32, a six-year veteran of the Mooresville force, was slain shortly after 10 p.m., not far from Highway 150, Charlotte’s WSOC-TV reported.
Sheldon was transported from the scene to receive medical attention but did not survive, the report said.
An unidentified suspect pursued by police in connection with the shooting was located in a nearby apartment but fatally shot himself as police closed in, according to the report.
The Mooresville Police Department announced the tragic news of Sheldon’s death in a Facebook post, along with photos of the slain officer.
Police arriving at the scene after the shooting located what was believed to be the suspect’s vehicle, then began chasing the suspect, WSOC reported.
Mooresville is a town of about 36,500 residents, located about 29 miles north of Charlotte.

Saw Charlotte news last night. Officer was a K9 guy, 32 years old. Locals interviewed were grieving because he was kind to them…one lady said that he became a cop for all the right reasons. It could be that he was the needle in the haystack: a nice guy AND a cop.
The perp who shot him is a local scumbag with a mile-long rap sheet…white guy who’s been in and out of jail for a decade. He got out of the hoosegow on Tuesday. The TV spot said the reason for the “traffic stop” was under investigation.
Charlotte is a section 8 shithole, but Mooresville is a decent little city near Lake Norman, north of Charlotte. It is home to a bunch of NASCAR and Indy teams.
