Is it possible for a politician who admitted to smoking crack cocaine and was reportedly heard threatening to kill someone to be more liked than the President of the United States? According to the latest polls and surveys, the answer is yes.
Based on the latest poll done by Forum Research, Rob Ford, the foul-mouthed, irascible Toronto mayor continues to enjoy a 42 percent job performance rating, while a CBS poll released this week had President Barack Obama’s approval rating at an all-time low of just 37 percent.
The results of the survey of more than 1,000 responders about Mayor Ford were made public two days after Toronto City Council overwhelmingly voted to strip him of most of his mayoral powers, a move that 60 percent of the responders were in agreement with.
Despite all of Ford’s apparent issues, less than half of those asked wanted Toronto to hold a referendum on whether Ford should be allowed to remain in office, according to the Los Angeles Times. Of those polled, 33 percent indicated they will vote for Ford again if he runs for re-election next year, and 18 percent said they would support his bid to become prime minister of Canada.
The Los Angeles Times also noted that the latest Gallup poll on Obama’s popularity showed it at a low point for his administration at 39 percent, hit by widespread defects in the rollout of online guidance for healthcare consumers to sign up for coverage under his signature Affordable Care Act.
