Renee Rockefeller, the daughter-in-law of former Vice President Nelson Rockefeller, was caught shoplifting at a five-star resort in Mexico, multiple sources say, while on a trip with a big group of boldface names.
Renee, the wife of Mark Rockefeller — whose father Nelson was vice president from 1974 to 1977 under President Gerald Ford — was on a trip to Punta Mita with pals including Tory Burch and Jamie Tisch to celebrate a socialite’s birthday over Martin Luther King Jr. weekend.
According to numerous sources, Renee — who strongly denies stealing — had been staying at the swanky St. Regis resort with friends, but trouble started when she went shopping at the equally fancy Four Seasons. One witness told us, “Renee paid for a dress for around $500 on her credit card at the Four Seasons gift shop. Then, inexplicably, she picked up an inexpensive pair of earrings and put them in her bag or pocket.” The witness added, “Renee was stopped by security and told that she was caught stealing on security camera. She denied it, then she realized she’d been caught and handed back the stolen items. She wasn’t arrested, but it did cause a big scandal within her group. Those with her, particularly Tory and Jamie, were horrified.”
The incident was confirmed by a number of other sources at the resorts during the trip, also attended by actors Chris O’Donnell and Glen Powell, designer Monique Lhuillier and Tracy Tutor Maltas.
Renee, married to Mark since 1998, is a prominent face on the New York social circuit, a board member for Creative Time, and consultant for the Frieze Art Fair. Her Park Avenue apartment was profiled in the New York Times in 2013 and features a Picasso tapestry of “Les Demoiselles d’Avignon” in the living room.
Renee told Page Six in e-mails: “Not true . . . the whole thing is nothing . . . FALSE. We are going to get our lawyers involved.” Their lawyers did not get back to us by press time.

The Rockefellers have always been trash. She comes from a long line of criminals and outlaws, so this is no surprise.
