Breitbart – by ILDEFONSO ORTIZ
MCALLEN, Texas — A Mexican University in the border city of Nuevo Laredo has temporarily shut its doors citing safety concerns after a series of apparent cartel threats.
The Nuevo Laredo campus of Universidad Valle De Mexico (UVM) recently shut its doors down giving little explanation other than citing security concerns, Mexican news outletsreported. However a Tamaulipas law enforcement official confirmed to Breitbart Texasthat the school had closed its doors following a series of cartel threats. This is the second Mexican university to close its doors following cartel threats in recent months.
The city of Nuevo Laredo is in under the control of Los Zetas, a drug cartel that has earned great fame for its violent tactics as well as branching out into extortion, kidnapping, human trafficking and other violent crimes.
Calls made to UVM Nuevo Laredo by Breitbart Texas were not answered; however the university did issue a news release simply stating that classes were being cancelled because of a lack of secure conditions. The university said that missed classes would be made up and that while the campus remains closed students will not be charged tuition.
As previously reported by Breitbart Texas, the Universidad Valle De Mexico from Reynosa closed its doors temporarily after members of the Gulf Cartel tried to extort the university. UVM is one of the largest private universities in Mexico with campuses throughout the nation.
