The UC Berkeley student government has banned the term “illegal immigrant” from its discourse, deeming the phrase racist, offensive, unfair and derogatory.
In an unanimous vote, student senators passed a resolution that stated the word “illegal” is “racially charged,” “dehumanizes” people, and contributes to “punitive and discriminatory actions aimed primarily at immigrants and communities of color.”
The “resolution in support of drop the I-word campaign” was approved 18 to 0 with one abstention on Oct. 30, according to a copy of the meeting’s minutes obtained by The College Fix.
Its approval marks at least the second time this semester that a public university’s student government has voted to eradicate the phrase. UCLA passed a nearly identical measure in late August.
There are an estimated 900 students in the country illegally who are currently enrolled in the 10-campus, University of California system, according to UC officials. These students live in “fear” because former Homeland Security secretary Janet Napolitano is now president of the UC system, according to the resolution, which aims to “create a safe campus environment for all students.”
“The ‘I’ word is legally inaccurate since being out of status is a civil rather than criminal infraction,” states the resolution, which notes some journalists have stopped using the term.
“No human being is illegal,” the resolution continues. “ ‘Foreign nationals,’ ‘undocumented immigrants,’ ‘immigrants without papers’ and ‘immigrants seeking status’ are examples of terms we can use that do not dehumanize people.”
The resolution also calls for administrators and faculty to attend an “UndocuAlly training workshop.”
Several student senators praised the resolution, the meeting’s minutes state.
Student Sen. Wendy Pacheco said it was not just symbolic, but aimed to shift how people see their “fellow human beings,” that it’s not OK for someone to feel comfortable calling another “illegal,” while student Sen. Sean Tan said discouraging the word will help ease the negative psychological harm undocumented students face by the label.
The lone abstention came from student Sen. Solomon Nwoche.
Nwoche said while he sympathized with the situation, he thinks the resolution does not accomplish anything substantial. He added he was disappointed in how a student who spoke against the resolution at an earlier meeting was treated by student senators, who laughed or had their backs turned when the lone protestor addressed the dais.

People who cross the border illegally are illegal immigrants, or should i say unlawful immigrants. And whoever gives aid and comfort is also breaking our laws, no matter what some elitist snot head thinks, (do they think?)

A rose by any other name is still a rose. Who said that? It is true. They are still illegal since they broke the law and sneaked across the border. You can not cover up that fact. You can flower it over but it still smells the same.
So, does this now make a child rapist an “unlawful sexual advancer”? And, according to that logic, don’t the individuals of that student body now have to refer to themselves as “lawful student citizens” or “student citizens with papers” to distinguish them from “unlawful student non-citizens”?
The title illegal immigrant describes their actions not their humanity. I sympathize with the plight and even worked closely with a “non-citizen without papers” for a while. He was scared all of the time. He knew he was in the country illegally and we never discussed his lawful or unlawful status. I doubt his fear would have diminished if he’d known that he was just unlawful and not illegal.
Here is the problem. Illegal immigration has ruined America, simple as that. All 25 million of them! They have more rights than I do for F@#k sakes!!
They’re maggots sucking off the American tit! They will be sent back, just a matter of time (one way or another). Only way our country will ever survive.
Just keep it simple and call them criminal invaders. They made the choice to break our laws the same way a thief chooses to break into a person’s house.
can they call them “non legal resident”?
This is SICK!!! A person breaking several laws by entering another country is ILLEGALLY in that country. That person is also an alien in that he or she is not a citizen nor legal resident. What we need is a descriptive tag for someone who is in our country illegally and who is sucking up as many benefits as possible, burdening our system. At one point this kind of thing was referred to as “The White Man’s Burden.” We should help our neighbors by sharing knowledge with their governments, nothing more, and I am not referring to educating them, just giving them recommendations to their governments on how to deal with THAT GOVERNMENT’S PROBLEMS, not ours.
…the saddest part of this story…disregarding the decades of diminished wages and opportunity for other Americans…(both Immigrant & Natural)…is that these kids do not even understand the relationship between their PC Vote and the economic conditions the country faces….do they not understand that wages have been stagnant for decades because of the relief valve on labor needs from the Southern half of our “Americas”…?
Are they not supposed to be learning other subjects..such as economics …and real world history…? This vote displays a childish view of the world that is in line with the NWO… and the idea that “immigration” should not be controlled and filtered appropriately (amount/criminals, etc)…but should be allowed to run away at any rate…because they think we are racist?
These children should get out in the real world for a while…and understand the manipulative propaganda they are fed..and how it is going to effect their lives …and the lives of their children and grandchildren…
If I were the young crowd in America today…I’d get out as fast as I could….because you are soon going to have to pay an even steeper price for the type of 18-0 vote that the kiddy-senate came up with…
BTW….Janet Nap is a traitor to the USA and needs to be charged with treason, found guilty and hung… along with all of her traitors friends and families… find them all guilty and start hanging them…right on one of “her ” Campuses…
