Police have charged the woman they say went on a stabbing spree at an illegal birthing facility in New York, cutting three infants and two adults, with another infant suffering a head injury, before attempting to take her own life.
Yu Fen Wang, 52, who worked at the Mei Xin Care underground establishment, has been charged with five counts of attempted murder, police said.
The terrifying incident unfolded at around 3.40am on Friday morning inside of a three-story townhome on 161st Street between 45th and 43rd avenues in Flushing, Queens.
The victims included a 63-year-old worker, a 31-year-old man and four infant girls, aged three days, two weeks, three weeks and one month, the New York Post reported.
The three-week-old was not stabbed, but instead suffered a fractured skull, the cause of which was still being investigated on Saturday, police said.
Wang was found unconscious in the basement when police arrived at the scene, where they also found a butcher knife and meat cleaver.
All of the victims, and Wang, survived.
Wang remained in custody Saturday at New York-Presbyterian Hospital Queens, where she was undergoing a psychiatric evaluation.
The location of the brutal attack is said to provide housing for foreign mothers have come to America in order to give birth to their children on US soil in hops of later earning them citizenship.
There were nine babies inside the Mei Xin Care facility when the terror unfolded, five of which were girls and four were baby.
The man who was injured is the father of one of the injured infants. He was struck in the ankle during the stabbing.
Wang’s colleague was inflicted with wounds on her torso, police said.
It remains unclear how many stab wounds the child victims suffered and where on the body they were struck.
The three-week-old baby girl who suffered the fractured skull was rushed her to the hospital by her parents before cops arrived, police said.
It was not immediately clear on Saturday whether that child was injured as a result of the stabbing spree, or in some other manner.
In the 911 call on Friday morning, one of the injured babies’ mothers reported the terror as it unfolded.
‘Help, help, help!’ she said, according to NBC which obtained the call.
‘Hurry, my baby has already been stabbed twice.’
Another person called later, saying: ‘I’m sleeping … and then I heard somebody yelling … and then they are killing people.
‘I just saw blood on the floor … and that somebody got hurt.’
That person told the operator they were scared to go outside in case they too were harmed, saying, ‘I’m afraid.’
The stabbing is understood to have happened on the ground floor and in the basement.
Wang, who sources said has psychological problems, then allegedly fled to a separate area in the basement of the brick home and slit her left wrist in an apparent attempt to take her own life.
Police discovered her unconscious and used a tourniquet to stem her bleeding, after which she was revived.
One of the baby girls was more severely injured than the others, NYPD Assistant Chief Juanita Holmes said.
Police initially feared for her life but her condition has improved to critical but stable since she was taken to the hospital, Holmes said.
Holmes added that the property was split between living quarters but that they had uncovered paperwork which showed it was a daycare center too.
There is no record for any business at that site online.
The building where the horror unfolded is a multi-family townhouse which contains several separate apartments.
The center is one of many other similar clandestine facilities across the country where foreign pregnant women come to give birth to their babies on US soil so that they may later gain citizenship.
One of the injured babies’ mothers told the New York Post she paid $4,600 to stay there for a month.
The Office of Child and Family Services distanced itself from the facility after the stabbing and said it was not certified by them in anyway.
‘OCFS is saddened by this horrific situation and investigating it as a possible illegal operation,’ the agency said.
How is it that places like this even exist? Super pregnant women get off the plane, rush over to this dumpy house and drop a kid all in hopes of moving to America, land of the free stuff?
The only thing better than banning pregnant women from exiting the aircraft at all would be to not accept ANY foreign people…no students, no tourists…zip-nada-zero! We’re full. We don’t need or want anymore!
