An Amusement Park Ride Snapped in Half and Killed Two People in India

Time – by Amy Gunia

A popular pendulum-style ride at an amusement park in the western Indian city of Ahmedabad broke on Sunday while the ride was operating. The accident was caught on video.

The city mayor’s office said two people died, and 29 others were injured in the accident at Kankaria Amusement Park, according to CBS News.

The “Discovery” ride has 32 seats. A video shows the pendulum shaft swinging the seats upward, before it snapped and fell to the ground.

“The pipe of the main shaft broke and crashed on the ground,” Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation Chief Fire Officer M. F. Dastoor told the Ahmedabad Mirror, according to CBS News. “How that pipe broke is a matter of investigation by Forensic Science Laboratory.”

Ahmedabad Municipal Commissioner Vijay Nehra tweeted that he has instructed police to begin a criminal investigation to determine the cause of the accident.

  1. I can hear the Indians now, shaking their bobble heads, “My kids were forced to watch this traumatic event. Can I get a refund, a free snow-cone and guest pass? And what can you give me for my lost time? My family and I took an unpaid day off from work. I don’t care about your policies, the victims or your safety regulations. What about my time?”.

That’s Indian mentality in a nutshell. Me me me!!! It’s all about me!

  2. Bummer!! This is why it’s never a good idea to put one’s life in the hands of another if the profit doesn’t outweigh the risk. This was a risk that was unnecessary all for a moments thrill ride.

  3. Made in China, welded together in India. Doesnt get any better.

I hate to admit it, but I’m driving on tires made in India, a lot of people dont know that a HUGE amount of the truck tires out here are made in India.

The trailer tires as well. It’s all about the money baby. I dont have any control over any of that, unfortunately.

About 250.00 apiece for the trailer tire. The steer and drive tires are a lot more.

  4. WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    OH SHITTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  5. anyone that rides this shit is taking their life in their own hands with a huge mistake

I have had welding inspectors at my shop doing work for me , and was told the scary shit he’s seen on these things ..says he would never put any of his kids on any of them..

I have never liked these rinky dink rides since i was a kid

  6. Used to get Six Flags Magic Mountain season tickets every year for about 7 or 8 yrs. in a row back in the early 2000’s. Mainly for the Christian concerts they had, but I loved the rides too.

The last couple times I went, though, I damn near passed out on a couple of the rides I had been doing for years, and the whiplash from the newer rides was over the top for me, so I was done.

  7. Anybody else a roller-coaster fanatic? Best are the ole’ wooden kind. Still one at Santa Cruz boardwalk. Creeks and crawls, then the deadly descent. Stops the heart and your face falls off.

    Sometimes ya jus’ gotta.
