Using the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre as its justification, the Obama administration has recently given the psychiatric business and pharmaceutical industry a major gift by quietly introducing a behavioral and mental health program in public schools throughout the United States.

In an under-reported section of “Now is the Time there’s a section about “making schools safer” and “improving mental health services” for students.

The Thorp family with Danny. The Boston Globe – by Beth Teitell

When Sheryl Thorp and her family decided to adopt a dog, the Concord mother figured it would be “pretty straightforward, easy.”

That was before they lost out to one of the other four families competing for the young golden retriever her sons had fallen in love with. Before Thorp was asked to fill out a rescue agency questionnaire that asked about child-bearing plans. And before a high-stakes home visit that had her scrubbing her floors to impress the inspector.   Continue reading “Would-be pet adopters competing for companions”

Geoff Lawton has taught more than 6,000 students in over 30 countries on how to grow food in the most efficient and ecologically friendly way possible through permaculture design science, so he knows as well as anyone what a healthy ecosystem and healthy plants should look like.

And as you’ll see on Lawton’s recent clip of both a thriving natural prairie landscape and a GMO cornfield used for feeding animals in factory farms, the GMO cornfield simply doesn’t measure up.   Continue reading “Permaculture Expert Takes Viewers on a GMO Cornfield Tour: “There’s No Life Here at All…This is Not Farming””

And the dogs are quite effective.   Continue reading “Defending searches, security director says ‘every school has drugs in it’”

“It’s official: The U.S. is the world’s leading terrorist state, and proud of it.”

That should have been the headline for the lead story in The New York Times on Oct. 15, which was more politely titled “CIA Study of Covert Aid Fueled Skepticism About Helping Syrian Rebels.”

The article reports on a CIA review of recent U.S. covert operations to determine their effectiveness. The White House concluded that unfortunately successes were so rare that some rethinking of the policy was in order.   Continue reading “America, the World’s Leading #1 Terrorist State”

SANTA CRUZ — Sean Hannity and Bill O’Reilly should be outraged.

It appears that someone in the liberal bastion of Santa Cruz doesn’t like the overtly conservative Fox News — imagine that! — or anyone dressing up like a Fox News reporter on Halloween, for that matter.

At downtown Santa Cruz’s annual parade on Friday night, police said, 29-year-old Sean Kory said “I hate Fox News” before grabbing the victim’s microphone prop. The dreadlocked Kory then made an obscene gesture with it before attacking the victim with an aluminium tennis racket, police said.   Continue reading “Santa Cruz man says “I hate Fox News,” then allegedly attacks victim wearing Fox reporter Halloween costume”

Senator Ron Wyden

Washington, D.C. –The Central Intelligence Agency’s call to black out all pseudonyms from the Senate Intelligence Committee’s report on torture would be unprecedented – and represents an unacceptable effort to obscure key facts, Sen. Ron Wyden, D-Ore., said.

“This report is about mistakes, misdeeds and falsehoods that were repeated over a period of years.  If you don’t know whether they were repeated by different officials each time, or by the same officials over and over, you really don’t know the full story,” Wyden said. “A lot of officials are intent on burying the full story, but getting the truth out is the only way to keep all of this from happening again.”   Continue reading “Wyden: CIA Demand To Black Out Torture Report Details Would Be Unprecedented”

Mayors CourtThe Newspaper

Motorists traveling through Ohio’s speed traps often have no opportunity for their case to be heard in front of a neutral judge. In 310 small towns statewide, the mayor or someone he designates decides guilt or innocence of the accused driver, collects the fine and decides how to spend the revenue.

Ohio and Louisiana are the only states that continue to allow “mayor’s courts” to hear minor cases in towns that do not have their own municipal court. A mayor with some legal training can preside over cases, otherwise he will hand the responsibility over to a lawyer of his choosing. About one out of every five traffic tickets issued in the state comes from towns with mayor’s courts.   Continue reading “Ohio Speed Traps Continue To Thrive Under Mayors Courts”

Holder noted that rate of violent crime reported to the FBI in 2012 was about half the rate reported in 1993. He said the rate of incarceration in the U.S. has dropped more than 8 percent since President Obama took office, “the very first time these two critical markers have declined together in more than 40 years.” (The U.S. prisoner total increased last year, but Holder cited the incarceration rate, relating prisoner numbers to the population.)
