B.S. Alert: Poll: Most back legal status for immigrants in US illegally

WASHINGTON (AP) — A majority of Americans support allowing immigrants living in the country illegally to stay and be granted legal status, according to a new poll released Thursday.

The survey conducted by the Pew Research Center found that 72 percent of Americans support legal status for such immigrants.

The survey results come at the beginning of the 2016 presidential campaign, in which immigration is expected to be a key point of debate

The poll found that 56 percent of Republicans agree that immigrants living in the U.S. illegally should be able to stay — so long as they meet certain criteria. The poll question did not specify what those requirements might be.

The Pew survey also found that about half of Americans think a lot more can be done to secure the nation’s border. Border security is a common starting point among many Republicans for any plan to overhaul the country’s immigration system.

While 63 percent of Republicans also said they believed immigrants in the country illegally are a burden on the country, the Pew survey also suggests there is a growing divide between Republican voters and Republican lawmakers. Researchers found that only 34 percent of Republicans and Republican-leaning independents said the party is adequately representing their views on illegal immigration.

About half of Democrats, and those who lean left, say that party is doing a good job representing their view on the issue.

Support for allowing immigrants in the country illegally to stay can vary depending on how survey questions are worded. A recent Associated Press-GfK poll found that about half of Americans and a third of Republicans support either a path to citizenship or legal status, but that survey did not specify that immigrants must “meet certain requirements” to qualify, as the Pew survey did.

Still, the AP-GfK poll found that most Republicans could at least imagine voting for a candidate who wanted to keep in place President Barack Obama’s executive action to postpone many deportations in place.

Last year, Obama announced plans to expand a program that shields certain immigrants from deportation and allows them to legally work in the U.S. The expanded program, which could benefit more than 4 million people, is on hold after a federal judge in Texas ordered it halted pending a trial to determine if the effort is legal.

The Pew survey was conducted by telephone using landline and cellphones among 2,002 adults between May 12 and May 18. The poll’s margin of error was plus or minus 2.5 percentage points.

  1. “The survey conducted by the Pew Research Center… ”

The ‘jew Propaganda Research Center’ would be far more accurate.

“The Pew survey also found that about half of Americans think a lot more can be done to secure the nation’s border.”

    The other half are illegals.

    1. …conducted by PEEEEEE-HEEEEW research center. lol

Polls have been corrupted just like the “news”: you never know what’s real or not with polls. They have also gotten to polls, just like the “news”, “voting”, etc…

        1. Bingo !!! Every aspect of our world, except the essence of nature, IS a ” synthetically manipulated construct ” . . . And most live in ” private Matrices ” within this primary matrix.

  2. Those ziocomms sure know how to lie and twist the truth. All they gotta do is say they took a poll then skew the numbers to their advantage. They can say the majority is whatever they want to say it is and the stupid people will go along with it because they’ve been taught to go along to get along and they all want to be in the majority. They won’t want to be in the minority and even those who perceive themselves to be in the minority but still stick to their convictions will feel helpless because they’re in the minority.
It’s pretty diabolical. Hopefully more and more people are waking up. Although I wouldn’t know it by talking to my neighbors. Still snoozing…lol.

    1. Hey tc, I believe we all run into “the blind leading the blind” every day of the week and twice on Sundays with your government (Satan) controlled churches unless you do your vetting.

  3. I can make any poll come out any way I want it to, its all in who and how you ask what questions to and how you play fuzzy math with what numbers you end up with
