CCTV Captures Woman’s Terrifying Ordeal During Home Invasion

Overland Park, KS – A 21-year-old woman says she was attacked in her Overland Park home and her security system caught it on camera.

Katie O’Connor is too frightened to go back to her own apartment and feels partly responsible because she trusted a friend.

In the video captured by O’Connor’s hidden camera, one can see her struggling to breathe in a chokehold.

“As soon as he put his arm around my neck, I was like, ‘oh [expletive], this is really happening. This is really going on,'” she said.

The attack happened about 9:30 a.m. Tuesday near West 106th Street. O’Connor said she told a friend that she was trying to get rid of her ex-boyfriend’s carpentry tools.

“I told her I was trying to sell them, and she was like, ‘Oh, I might know a couple of guys looking to open their own business,'” O’Connor said.

But the only business these guys were into was stealing.

O’Connor said she doesn’t know the two men. But the woman, nervously pacing the floor in the surveillance video, was someone she knew.

They planned play dates for their children, and she talked to her about going back to school.

“I thought it was on a personal level though, I thought she just wanted to be my friend,” O’Connor said.

But now she believes it was a setup. The alleged thieves took money she had for college tuition and her rent, the tools and a safe.

The only saving grace for O’Connor was her hidden cameras inside her apartment. She put them in three months ago when she hired a new nanny.

“I have nanny cams from March because I had a nanny I was kind of worried about. It goes to my phone. I can watch it live, and it records, and I can watch it on any computer … my phone as long as I have Wi-Fi” she said. “I just feel dumb for letting them in my house.”

Overland Park police are investigating the home robbery. They are also trying to identify and find all of the suspects involved.

If you have any information, please contact police at 913-895-6300.

  1. I hope this is not one of those fame seekers and I fell into the trap by posting it.

I do think this is real but what concerns me is she has her phone in hand and doesn’t diall 911, the friend knowing now there is a camera doesn’t freak out, and why not post the entire situation from beginning to end, regardless if we can see or not?

If this is really true and actual then we can welcome a new gun owner to the family!

    1. “I do think this is real but what concerns me is she has her phone in hand and doesn’t diall 911… ”

What concerns me is that you would even suggest such a thing. What, so the clean-up crew can go pick up the body?

Or kill her themselves if she’s not already dead when they get there?

  2. As far as home invasions go, this woman got off easy, and that also makes me somewhat suspicious.

I don’t think many home-invasion victims survive the ordeal, because there isn’t much sense leaving the witness behind. When these bastards get inside your house all manner of madness may transpire, because it’s the kind of crime where the crooks have all the time they need and don’t have to worry about police or passers-by interrupting things.

Yes, I wouldn’t be too surprised if the victim becomes the recipient of a lot of donated cash, and as Scott suggested (above), that may have been the plan all along.

  3. The problem I have with this is this. Even young children can be trained to inflict physical damage from which, most bad guys will run away. Let alone an adult female. They have finger nails! If you poke that nail into an eyeball, or scratch it out, believe me when I say, that the bad guy isn’t going to be thinking about stealing a computer! children of as young as 3-5 yrs. old can do this and or break a finger easily. It’s the follow up that needs to take place which can also be accomplished. I like being a loving peaceful man, but i also appreciate being able to defend myself with lethal force against such miscreants. This fear based inaction scenarios displayed train people to be willing victims.
