Cops get all Big Brother on one town’s Broncos fans

Police in Fort Collins, Colo., are asking Super Bowl partiers to let them know how many people you’re expecting for the big game, what time the festivities will get under way and — most importantly — two phone numbers where you can be reached if things get out of hand.

“If you live in the city limits of Fort Collins and you are hosting a Super Bowl Party, you can register your party with the City,” states a notice on the website for the city’s Neighborhood Services Department.

Hosts who register their parties with the authorities — in person and with an ID — will get a heads-up phone call from the cops if anyone calls to complain about noise or nuisances. That starts a 20-minute clock in which the host must break up the party or risk an in-person visit and possibly a citation.

The party registration struck some commenters on the Fort Collins Coloradoan website as draconian.

“And while you’re at it, please also register any upcoming hot tub parties, birthday get-togethers, bunko night activities and holiday celebrations,” wrote Steve Bonham. “Government over reach on steroids!”

“This is why I like the county,” wrote Raygina Kohlmeier. “When we have a party, we walk over to the neighbors and tell them, ‘We’re having a party on this day, at this time, for this reason. Stop by if you like.’ Haven’t had anyone call the sheriff on a party.”

The police have other helpful tips on their website to “keep your celebration safe and conflict free.”

They include: “Celebrate in a non-confrontational, non-destructive manner; use good sportsmanship behavior; demonstrate good character; be independent. Don’t get caught up in the crowd mentality.”

The statement also discourages people from rioting with the warning, “Remember, there is no anonymity in a crowd.”

They also apparently prefer no anonymity for people throwing a party.

OMG! How about “GO F**K YOURSELF!”?

    1. Agreed. They aren’t even doing that up here (though we’re having a boost in a Heck of a lot of other surveillance this week [Tired of the air coverage. Hasn’t been this heavy, low, and loud since 9/11.] ).

  2. Soooo glad I moved out of that place. They use 7 cops to pull over people.

Colorado has a law on the books allowing a town/city to incorperate in such a way as to circumvent any constitutional rights. The city as a corporation can(once you enter and give over your rights) do anything it wants including entering your house, detain you for any reason, impose fines without warrent, and seize all property for any reason. Fort Collins is the shining example of why this law is f-ked.

So many people get wrapped up in the city/county system and are unable to get free from it.

Example: you dont pay a parking ticket. The parking enforcment scan your car. They will tow it on site and if you are unlucky enough to arrive while the towing is happening you will be arrested and booked. That is where the fun starts. You now go to court and a fine is imposed. But you also get put on a probation period where you are required to call the court house EVERYDAY to see if they called ‘your color’. If they did you are required to show up before close of business that day to pee in a cup and do a breathalizer. “but i wasnt on drugs or drunk when I didnt pay the fine”. No worries it is SOP. then because you believe you are free you drink the night before.OH now you need alc classes. Every test you get and all the classes they force you into cost you money to be paid when you take the test. No money? Violation! and the process gets bigger and more costly. My buddy had to pay on average over 100$ a week for 5 years. He finaly managed to get out of it and moved. After a year he forgot how shitty that place is and let his girlfriend talk him into returning.

    Say it with me….shit hole.

    1. Damn! And I thought the Williamson County and Round Rock, TX police department were bad. I guess that’ll be another place on my shit list. Thanks for the warning.
