Democrat presidential hopeful Joe Biden released his education plan Tuesday and one of the main goals is to “defeat the National Rifle Association.”
Included in this goal is renewing the 1994 “assault weapons” ban.
Biden claims that defeating the NRA is a way to make schools “safer.” His plan pushes for “rational gun laws” instead of armed teachers, and pledges to institute gun control laws that will ensure students do not have to worry about gun violence.
One such gun control would be an “assault weapons” ban.
Biden’s plan overlooks two very important issues. First, the deadliest school shooting of the 21st century–Virginia Tech, April 16, 2007– was carried out with handguns, not “assault weapons.” That horrid attack perfectly illustrated the Rockefeller Institute of Government’s findings mass shooters prefer handguns over rifles by a margin of three to one.
Secondly, Biden fails to note that school shootings occur in places where the most gun controls exist; places where law-abiding individuals who otherwise carry a gun for self-defense are mandated to disarm for gun-free zone policies. These and other gun controls already guarantee that an attacker does not have to worry about facing armed resistance. Such a scenario meant the Sandy Hook Elementary School attacker had over nine minutesinside the school with no armed resistance and the Parkland high school attacker paused five times to reload without fear of being shot.
More gun control in these already heavily gun-controlled schools will only play into the hands of attackers by making it even harder for law-abiding citizens to defend themselves.

It only (mostly) guarantees that no one will get shot for real by someone with a gun thinking that a fake shooting (or ‘drill’) is the real deal.
Then someone may actually even get injured… or dead.
