COVINGTON, Ga – Authorities say a man dowsed in rubbing alcohol and set himself on fire inside of a Kroger grocery store in Covington, Ga. on Tuesday.
According to the manager of the store, the man doused himself with rubbing alcohol and threatened to set himself ablaze.
Other people stepped in to try and stop the man, but he still managed to set himself afire.
Covington Police said they received a call at about 4:15 regarding a person acting strangely, pulling things off of the shelves and yelling at the store.
Once officers arrived, they saw that the man was dowsing himself with rubbing alcohol and that he held a lighter. The man threatened to set himself ablaze.
Police tacked the man to the ground to prevent him from lighting himself, but the man managed to light himself on fire with at least two officers on top of him, investigators said.
The flames were extinguished, and the man was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital in Downtown Atlanta with second degree burns. One of the two officers was taken to a local hospital with first degree burns. The second officer was only singed.
The flames were soon extinguished and the man was transported to the hospital. His condition was not immediately known.
Investigators said the man will likely face charges in the incident.
Police are reviewing surveillance footage from the incident and have not decided when they will release it.
The question remains why did this man set himself on fire? Was he making a political statement? We will moniter this situation in the coming days.

I can think of a number of far less painful ways to commit suicide.
Rubbing alcohol? Sounds to me like he wanted a quick sun-tan rather then to kill himself.
Notice he was treated for “first-degree burns”, and cops who were right on top of him were only “singed”
Rubbing alcohol doesn’t burn hot enough to kill someone, unless they want to die very, very slowly. He may have had to get up to grab a few more bottles of the stuff the finish the job if the cops didn’t tackle him.
