Amity Packing Co., a Chicago-based meat processor and supplier, is voluntary recalling one of its vacuum-sealed ground beef products for potential plastic contamination. The problem was discovered after two consumers reported finding clear plastic fragments in the product.

This recall is being issued for retail locations in Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. The recalled product was produced on January 6. 2020 and is listed as follows:

  • 1-lb. vacuum-packed packages containing “Pre 95% Lean/5% Fat Ground Beef” with lot code “0060,” case code “11402” and Use/Freeze By date of “01/31/2020” on the product label

While there have been no confirmed reports of injury related to this product, Amity Packing Co. is urging consumers to check their freezers for the recalled beef. The manufacturer also encourages consumers not to consume this product and return it to the place of purchase for a full refund.
