  1. There’s been some very good drummers over the years, but Buddy Rich and Neal Peart are the best I’ve ever seen. My father took me to a Buddy Rich concert at the old Carlton theater in St. Paul in the early Seventies. It was incredible. Neal Peart of Rush fame is as gifted and I’ve had the pleasure of seeing him perform live a few times. Thanks for the post, Wade.

    1. First LP i heard by Rush was all the worlds a stage and i was hooked for life. Saw the Grace under pressure tour in the Eighties at the Thomas and Mack here in Vegas. The room acoustics ruined the sound, to much concrete. As for Buddy Rich the supernatural drummer, i have yet to see a drummer play like him. My neighbor was Jazz drummer John Poole, he played with Anita O’Day. John had in his house, one of Buddy Riche’s drum sets, a Pearl streaked white Slingerland. When Johnny went to the Great gig in the sky, his wife Elaine, sold it on Ebay for 10 grand. The stories Johnny told me
about the golden age of Jazz were priceless. All the Greats are going.

      1. All The World’s A Stage is a total ass-kicker and one of the best live albums ever recorded. I think most of the songs on that album sound even better than their respective live versions.

Grace Under Pressure is also a great album that wins points for the originality of its songwriting and its unique sound.

        1. Correction: “I think most of the songs on that album sound even better than their respective STUDIO versions.”

          1. Three men with all that machinery making all the music is still open hearted. The girls never got it.

  2. Yeah, Neart Peart is awesome — definitely one of the best. I understand Buddy Rich had quite an influence on him.

  3. There a video with Charlie Parker and Buddy Rich on youtube.
Just slammin it. It’s only about 1:36 in length.

    1. Charlie was a bad ass.Gene Krupa was incredible. If you watch Keith Moon you see a little of Krupa in Keith’s playing. As for Rock drummers Neal is the professor. John Bohnam, Carl Palmer, Ginger Baker, Terry Bozzio are greats in there own right.
