The US Peace Corps announced on Wednesday that it was removing its 340 volunteers from West Africa due to recent Ebola outbreak, while the federal government is being urged to fast-track a new a drug that could possibly stave off a global pandemic.

According to Reuters, 130 volunteers will leave Sierra Leone, while another 108 and 102 will depart Liberia and Guinea, respectively. The Peace Corps blamed the virus’ continued spread for the decision.   Continue reading “Peace Corps leaves West Africa as Ebola outbreak expands”

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Immigration courts are speeding up hearings for the tens of thousands of Central American children caught on the U.S. border after criticism that the backlogged system is letting immigrants stay in the country for years while waiting for their cases to be heard.

There are 375,000 cases before the immigration courts and many immigrants wait months or years for a hearing. Instead of bumping children to the back of that long line, the courts are now giving each child an initial court hearing within three weeks, according to the Justice Department’s Executive Office for Immigration Review. A spokeswoman for the courts didn’t answer questions about how many children’s hearings had been set under the new plan, or which courts had scheduled additional hearings.   Continue reading “Immigration courts speed up children’s cases”

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Once-forgotten plaques placed by a Portland police officer in a city park to honor five Nazi-era German soldiers have come back to haunt the city.

The officer, Capt. Mark Kruger, threatened to sue the city last year over texts sent by a top police official to an officer characterizing him as a Nazi sympathizer. Instead of going to court, the city settled, agreeing to give Kruger 80 hours of vacation and $5,000.   Continue reading “Portland settles suit by officer who honored Nazis”

WASHINGTON (AP) — The State Department has endorsed the broad conclusions of a harshly critical Senate report on the CIA’s interrogation and detention practices after the 9/11 attacks, a report that accuses the agency of brutally treating terror suspects and misleading Congress, according to a White House document.

“This report tells a story of which no American is proud,” says the four-page White House document, which contains the State Department’s preliminary proposed talking points in response to the classified Senate report, a summary of which is expected to be released in the coming weeks.   Continue reading “State Dept: ‘No American is proud’ of CIA tactics”

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. (AP) — Racing against time, members of a Japanese organization are combing a New York military museum’s World War II records for information they hope will lead to the graves of American servicemen still listed as missing in action on Saipan.

The reason for the urgency: A developer plans to begin construction in the fall on a condominium near the beach where scores of Americans were killed on July 7, 1944, during Japan’s largest mass suicide attack of the war.   Continue reading “Japanese search US archives for WWII MIA info”

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Former Minnesota Gov. Jesse Ventura got the legal vindication he craved when a jury agreed he had been defamed in slain military sniper Chris Kyle’s autobiography.

Ventura won another victory on Wednesday — a day after the jury voted 8-2 to award him more than $1.8 million — when “American Sniper” publisher HarperCollins told The Associated Press it would remove the passage that sparked the lawsuit from the best-seller.   Continue reading “Jesse Ventura’s image and legal battles not over”

(Stephen Frank)  Democrat Senator Fran Pavley has a bill that would give the State the responsibility of “managing” all groundwater. That means the water projects and the groundwater will be controlled by government—which will pick the winners and loser. Government will decide if you can use your private property—water—to grow your crops or be forced at the barrel of a gun give your water to your neighbor that paid nothing for the well you dug and now he will use. Want to collapse agriculture in this State literally overnight, give control of water to government.   Continue reading “Court Ends Private Property Rights: All Water To Be Controlled By Government”

I recently read an article, by a self proclaimed second amendment supporter, blasting open carriers again. I find myself sighing and trying to muddle through the article without getting angry, but it never fails to make me upset to see these articles. They are usually written by someone who is angry, ignorant, and often useless when it comes to actually defending rights. These are usually the guys who stay home when the gun rallies are on a Saturday, because they can’t be bothered to dip into their free time.   Continue reading “It’s Not About You It’s About Them”

My two favorite lines people who hate open carry use are, “You are hurting the Second Amendment” and “Just because you can doesn’t mean you should”. Inevitably they will always use this in their argument.  Let’s take a closer look at these two assertions.

“You are hurting the Second Amendment”

First of all the Second Amendment shouldn’t exist at all. WHAAA, HUHH??? Shocking I know, but if you have ever studied history you would know that many of our most liberty loving founding fathers actually hated the bill of rights. This may sound counter intuitive, but think about it for a second. The reason they opposed it is because they never wanted Americans to think that their rights were restricted to only what what in the bill of rights. MAJ XXX’s Top 10 Road Marching Tips Plus 1

1. Powder your piggies. Your feet will sweat profusely during a road march. Damp feet blister easily. The best way to keep your feet comfortable and avoid excess blistering is to powder your feet before you start. Use Gold Bond, talc, corn starch, or any brand of commercial baby powder. Sprinkle powder on your bare feet, then put your socks on. Put a light coat of powder on the outside of your socks, and then dust the inside of your boots with a little more powder. Remember, lightly coat everything with powder – don’t dump the powder in big globs. If you do, those big globs will become big wet globs when your feet sweat and you’ll be road marching with a boot full of biscuit dough.    Continue reading “The Weapons Platform: Major XXX’s Ruck Marching Tips”

NOTE: This is the fourth in a series of articles covering basic constitutional principles

So far in the Constitution 101 series, we’ve established that the Constitution created a limited federal government meant to exercise only specific, enumerated powers. All other authority remains with the states and the people. We also discussed the fact that the people stand as the sovereign in the system, and the Constitution was ratified by the people, through preexisting political societies – the states.   Continue reading “Introduction to Nullification”

A seven hour standoff between a SWAT team in Hayward, California–and what was eventually determined to be an empty residence–ended, when authorities realized the individual they thought may have sent a series of “suspicious notes” was not actually home.

The bomb squad, including snipers and their bomb-sniffing K9s, were called out after deputies from the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office discovered a series of incendiary notes which indicated there were explosives inside of the home they were attempting to deliver eviction notices to, according to a report by KTVU. The events began around 10 am and ended at 5:30 pm on Tuesday evening.   Continue reading “SWAT Team Ends 7-Hour Standoff after Realizing Nobody was Home”

The Daily Sheeple – by Joshua Krause

During the 1990′s the growth of the militia movement surged at the heels of several national events. The Cold War had finally ended, but suspiciously, the United States’ global military apparatus did not shrink away. Domestically, the police state we know and love today began to assert itself. It could be argued that this new force in American affairs manifested in the events that transpired at Waco and Ruby Ridge. Suddenly the American public came face to face with the true nature of their government in a very publicized and horrifying way. Most people talked about it, and promptly went on with their daily lives as usual. As for the rest, that tiny vocal minority…they joined militias.   Continue reading “America’s Militia Movement is Back From the Dead”

Wendy’s Co., the third-biggest U.S. fast-food hamburger chain, is leaving the Russian market after three years, after a change in the local franchisee’s management.

The country’s eight Wendy’s outlets are being shut down, Bob Bertini, a spokesman for Dublin, Ohio-based Wendy’s said by e-mail. Wenrus Restaurant Group, a former unit of Moscow-based Food Service Capital, agreed in 2010 to open 180 restaurants under the format across Russia within a decade. There was a change in Wenrus’s ownership and management in the past year, and the decision to leave the country had nothing to do with politics, Bertini said.   Continue reading “Wendy’s Pulls Out of Russia After Franchisee Change”

MEXICO CITY (AP) — California Gov. Jerry Brown said Tuesday his state is willing to shelter more migrant children from Central America if needed but reiterated that the United States needs to find a long-term solution to the immigration crisis.

“I would do everything I could to make sure California will do its part to shelter any young children that are in need of protection,” Brown said after meeting with more than a dozen Central American religious leaders and Los Angeles Catholic Archbishop Jose Horacio Gomez in Mexico to discuss the surge of unaccompanied Central American youth and families illegally crossing into the United States.   Continue reading “Brown: California willing to shelter more migrants”

The United States issued a firm condemnation of the shelling of a United Nations school in Gaza that killed at least 16 Palestinians on Wednesday, but also confirmed it restocked Israel’s dwindling supplies of ammunition.

The White House expressed concern that thousands of civilians who had sought protection from the UN were at risk after the shelling of the girls’ elementary school. Some 3,300 civilians were taking shelter there, after being told by Israel to leave their homes.   Continue reading “US condemns shelling of UN school in Gaza but restocks Israeli ammunition”
