An operation to liberate the key Iraqi city of Mosul after two years of IS control begins on Sunday night, October 17.
The army of Popular Mobilization Units has recently been working towards the recapture of Mosul by liberating nearby towns and cutting off supply routes to the militants, who remain in the city. Mosul is the self-proclaimed Islamic State (IS; formerly ISIS/ISIL) militant group’s last bastion of power in Iraq, which has been under their control since June 2014.
