The Spartanburg Methodist College campus in South Carolina is on lockdown Monday evening after campus police said an officer-involved shooting had occurred. One person was killed, according to officials.

The State Law Enforcement Division (SLED) released a statement saying one person was killed in the shooting.

Thom Berry, public information office with SLED, said a campus officer was injured while investigating a possible vehicle break in. When the officer arrived, two suspects were in the vehicle and he tried to detain them. The suspects tried to flee from the scene in the vehicle and struck the officer.

“The officer fired into the vehicle,” Berry said in a statement. “One suspect is dead, and the other escaped but was captured a short time later.”

Berry said the officer was treated at the scene and wasn’t seriously injured.

Officials say there was never a gunman loose on campus, and the campus is not in any danger. SLED is investigating, according to WYFF-TV.

Students at the two-year private liberal arts college were told to go to their dorm rooms until they were given the all clear.

Spartanburg Methodist released the following statement on their Facebook page:

“Shooting on campus: SMC is lockdown go to your residence hall room and stay there until notified.”

  1. “Berry said the officer was treated at the scene and wasn’t seriously injured.”
That means he wasn’t hit by the car at all.

It sounds to me like some college kid locked himself out of his car, and when he finally got in, the rent-a-cop saw an excuse to be an a-hole.
The kids laughed, ignored him, and drove away, so he opened fire because he was insulted by their lack of respect for his “authority”.

Let’s see if I’m right when all the details come out.
