Dollar stores can be great places to pick up inexpensive items, but sometimes you get what you pay for.
Rather than ending up with a bargain, you could end up with junk or, even worse, something dangerous. Continue reading “Don’t buy these 7 things at a dollar store”

A new poll shows that more than two-thirds of American voters oppose any increase in the federal gas tax, even if the proceeds would be spent on infrastructure projects.
The poll was conducted by Freedom Partners, a nonpartisan free-market advocacy organization, and asked respondents to evaluate statements incorporating the primary arguments made by both supporters and opponents of increasing the gas tax. A hitchhiker in Kentucky learned a couple of valuable lesson this week when a good Samaritan tried to give him a ride. Namely, don’t bring a knife to a gunfight. After being picked up by Raymond Givens (yes, I had to read that twice too, it’s Raymond, not Raylan Givens) the hitchhiker tried to rob Givens at gunpoint.
According to local media reports: Continue reading “Don’t Bring a Knife to a Gunfight – Hitchhiker Pulls Knife, Victim Pulls Gun”

Source: U.S. Department of Energy, Federal Energy Management Program. Note: Energy usage includes both civilian and military agencies.
The U.S. federal government, with thousands of facilities and vehicles in locations across the United States and abroad, is one of the largest energy consumers in the world, but that consumption is declining. The U.S. Department of Energy’s Federal Energy Management Program (FEMP) shows total delivered-to-site energy use by the federal government fell to 0.96 quadrillion British thermal units (Btu) in fiscal year (FY) 2013, the lowest recorded since 1975, the earliest year for which data are available. Ukraine, to use a technical term, is broke. That’s what you call a country whose currency has lost half its value in just two days.
The problem is simple: Ukraine has no money and barely any economy. It’s already talking to the IMF about a $15 billion bailout and what’s euphemistically being called a debt “restructuring”—i.e., default—as its reserves have dwindled down to $6.42 billion, only enough to cover five weeks of imports. (Three months worth is considered the absolute least you can get by with). Continue reading “Ukraine’s currency just collapsed 50 percent in two days”

Charlotte Figi suffered from Dravet syndrome, a rare disease that caused her to have over 300 seizures a week and display autism-like symptoms. After trying every other conventional medical treatment available, her neurologist decided to treat her with cannabis oil extracts, and the results were astounding.
Figi’s parents live in Colorado, luckily, and her treatments with cannabis oil extracts were legal. In addition to eliminating her autism-like symptoms, Figi drastically reduced her seizures with cannabis oil. After eight short months, 99% of her debilitating condition was completely gone. It’s the “bells and whistles” that get the headlines – and grab your attention. But they might also grab your wallet once the warranty runs out. A classic example from long ago is the aluminum block four-cylinder engine GM trotted out back in the mid-1970s. It was a revolutionary design based on a high-silicon alloy that eliminated the need for pressed-in cylinder liners. It was also very lightweight, which promised to improve both the fuel economy and the handling of the car it was built for – the Chevy Vega. Stop me if you know where this is going…

People are just clamoring all over themselves to get other people’s rights taken away these days in this country. What the hell happened, America?
This new petition on White House.gov is even more ridiculous than the last one which asked to raise health insurance rates on families who don’t vaccinate. Now it’s just a request to straight up classify anyone who refuses to vaccinate their child as having a mental disorder. When it comes to popularity, cable companies rank down there with members of Congress, root canals and Nickelback. Current and former customers agree; they hate the high cost and poor service, and they especially hate the runaround they get from call centers.
Comcast and Time Warner Cable, the two largest cable television providers in the U.S., are consistently at the bottom of consumer satisfaction surveys and are among the least trusted corporations in the nation. Now these two monolithic companies are on the brink of a mega-merger. Continue reading “When Your Cable Company Attacks: Why Comcast Abuses Its Customers”

Have you every been followed? Have you ever known that gut-tightening fear that comes with the realisation that you are not imagining it, someone really is tailing you?
I have and it’s terrifying, especially here in the UK where carrying items of self-defence such as mace, knives and guns are illegal. Even in the United States there are areas where carrying a weapon is prohibited and if the gun control lobby have their way there will be a great many more of those places in the future.
