The Washington neo-cons and their allies in the US State Department and Obama Administration are clearly furious with China, as they are with Russia’s Vladimir Putin. As both Russia and China in recent years have become more assertive about defining their national interests, and as both Eurasian powers draw into a closer cooperation on all strategic levels, Washington has decided to unleash havoc against Beijing, as it has unleashed the Ukraine dis-order against Russia and Russian links to the EU. The flurry of recent deals binding Beijing and Moscow more closely—the $400 billion gas pipeline, the BRICS infrastructure bank, trade in rubles and renminbi by-passing the US dollar—has triggered Washington’s response. It’s called the Hong Kong ‘Umbrella Revolution’ in the popular media.   Continue reading “Hong Kong’s Umbrellas are “Made in USA””

Private citizens of Salt Lake City and surrounding areas recently took to the streets in the heart of downtown, demanding justice for victims of police brutality and killings. The protests took place yesterday against these unwarranted deaths, apparently focused on the killing of unarmed Dillon Taylor. The activists also highlighted the unnecessary use of lethal force against people like Darrien Hunt and many other victims.   Continue reading “Outrage Erupts On the Streets of Salt Lake City Against Repeated Police Shootings”

In a Washington Post commentary published on Monday, Joseph Perrone claims “a handful of deaths in Denver were tied to edible marijuana use this year.” That’s true, if by “handful” you mean two and if by “tied” you mean attributed by pot prohibitionists.

Perrone is referring to Levy Thamba Pongi, a visiting 19-year-old college student who jumped off a Denver hotel balcony after eating a pot cookie on March 11, and Kristine Kirk, whose husband allegedly murdered her on April 14 after eating cannabis candy. Perrone thus exaggerates the number of deaths and blames them on marijuana through post hoc, ergo propter hoc reasoning. This in an essay about  “the junk ‘science’ behind the marijuana legalization movement,” written by the chief science officer at an organization called the Center for Accountability in Science. I guess if you say “science” enough, you needn’t worry about being scientific.   Continue reading “Pot Prohibitionists Invent Marijuana Deaths, Scientifically”

Indiana residents are fighting to save their homes as their local government weighs a sweeping plan to demolish them to make way for new development, in a case critics are calling a “poster child” for the abuse of so-called eminent domain powers.

Charlestown, Ind., Mayor Bob Hall announced his plans earlier this year to demolish more than 350 homes in the city’s Pleasant Ridge neighborhood. The mayor contends the neighborhood is “blighted,” and therefore the city is eligible for state money to buy out the homeowners and tear down their houses.   Continue reading “‘My house is not for sale’: Indiana residents fight city’s home-seizure plan”

Gates-1The Produce News – by Chip Carter

VIDALIA, GA — It has been rumored and discussed on the streets here for months that the Seattle-based Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation or Cascade Investment LLC, the Gates’ private trust located in Kirkland, WA, is actively seeking to purchase producing farms in the Vidalia area, renowned for its sweet onions and the center of that industry.

Already, two entities — Coggins Farms in Lake Park, GA, and more recently Stanley Farms and its subsidiaries in Lyons, GA — have been sold and, while the trail is murky, documents and interviews with other Vidalia-area growers link the purchases to Kirkland and seemingly to Gates.   Continue reading “Is Bill Gates buying up farms in Vidalia? Gwen Daniels Courthouse News – by RYAN KOCIAN

AUSTIN, Texas (CN) – An Austin policeman shot four times “point blank” into the windshield of a waitress fleeing a late-night attack from drunks on a “crowded and boisterous” street, then arrested her and impounded her car for 10 months, the woman claims in court.
Gwendolyn Daniels sued Officer Robert Krummel and the City of Austin in Federal Court on Monday for excessive force, unlawful arrest and conversion.
Daniels claims she had just finished her late night shift as a server at the Coyote Ugly bar when she tried to leave the barricaded East 6th Street area in her vehicle.
As she did so, she says, “several drunken patrons from the nearby bars” attacked her vehicle. It was about 2:20 a.m., Oct. 20, 2013.    Continue reading “Woman Calls Austin Cop Trigger-Happy”

On Tuesday more energy was created by UK wind farms than by nuclear power stations, reports the National Grid.

Wind farms made up 14.2 per cent of all power generated, while nuclear power contributed 13.2 per cent, although the energy network operator said this was due to a combination of unusually strong winds and intermittent service from the power plants.

The 24-hour triumph of wind follows a similar landmark on Saturday, when stormy weather allowed wind turbines to generate a record 6,372 megawatts – supplying a fifth of the UK’s energy needs, although at a time when demand was low.
