Most of the time when shooters are looking for quiet firearms, they will look for something on which they can mount a suppressor. That is all fine and well if you live in one of the 42 states where silencers are legal and if you can shell out the money ($250 -$1500) for a proper suppressor plus $200 for the permission slip from the ATF. Even if you go the form 1 route to make your own, there are still material costs and once again the $200 tax stamp.
However, if you stop and think about it, there are a number of firearms that are “quiet” in their own right. They may not give you the level of comfort experienced by shooting a suppressed rifle or pistol all day, but a handful of shots from one of these will definitely not “ring your ears” — and some are as quiet as an air rifle. Prosecutors trying the case against six of rancher Cliven Bundy’s supporters played hours of video footage this week that gave the public a peek into the minds of federal law enforcement officers as the 2014 confrontation with armed protesters unfolded in Bunkerville.
When Bureau of Land Management Agent Mark Brunk testified early in the week, prosecutors played dash cam footage that recorded him uttering an expletive, followed by, “You come find me and you’re gonna have hell to pay.” Continue reading “Bunkerville standoff video captures agent conversations”
Elon Musk’s Space Exploration Technologies Corp. plans to send two private citizens on a trip around the moon late next year as it continues to work with NASA for a planned crewed mission to the International Space Station.
The passengers, who each paid a “significant deposit,” will undergo health and fitness tests and begin initial training later this year, the company said in a blog post Monday. SpaceX didn’t identify the two citizens or say how much they spent to book the trip that will use the Falcon Heavy, a new rocket in development that SpaceX has yet to fly. Yesterday, the South Dakota House of Representatives passed House Bill 1072 by a 37 –30 vote. Sponsored by Representative Lynne DiSanto (R-35), HB 1072 would remove the requirement to obtain a permit in order to lawfully carry a firearm for self-defense. This important pro-self-defense legislation is a big step forward in allowing South Dakotans to be better able to defend themselves and their loved ones without having to obtain a government issued permit. HB 1072 now moves to the South Dakota Senate where it will await a committee referral. Continue reading “South Dakota: House Passes Constitutional/Permitless Carry Legislation”

Cannon Ball, ND — Heavily militarized police and National Guard forces moved in to raid camps at Standing Rock on Thursday morning, with hundreds of riot gear-clad officers marching in formation to clear camps of water protectors, journalists, and anyone firmly entrenched to oppose the Dakota Access Pipeline.
Ominously poised on Highway 1806, officers waited in formation with dozens of heavily armored vehicles for over an hour before eventually descending into the remnants of the largest Standing Rock camp, Oceti Sakowin, in recent days renamed Oceti Oyate. A European parliament delegation that attempted to enter the besieged Gaza Strip to assess the residual damage of Israel’s 2014 military offensive was denied entry by Israeli authorities today.
According to a statement released by the European Parliament’s Delegation for relations with Palestine, Israeli authorities told the group that their entry was denied owing to the fact that only humanitarian workers and diplomats accredited by the Israeli government or the Palestinian Authority (PA) are allowed access to Gaza, which has been under an Israeli military blockade for a decade. All the major Jewish activist groups in America—including the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) and the Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society (HIAS)—have come out in opposition to the new deportation guidelines announced by the Trump administration—but continue to back Israel’s deportation rules, which are far stricter and openly racial in nature.
The new Trump administration rules, announced February 21, directed his administration to enforce the nation’s immigration laws more aggressively, unleashing the full force of the federal government to find, arrest, and deport those in the country illegally, regardless of whether they have committed serious crimes. The Jewish Telegraphic Agency, described by Wikipedia as a not-for-profit “international news agency and wire service serving Jewish community newspapers and media around the world,” ran a story with a very interesting admission on Tuesday, asserting that the sudden alleged rash of bomb threats against Jewish Community Centers were “Hoax bomb threats.”
The JTA was founded exactly 100 years ago this month and is based in New York City. Continue reading “Jewish Telegraphic Agency Runs Story Admitting “Hoax Bomb Threats”(!)”
