Beirut threatens to ‘confront’ Israel over possible wall on ‘Lebanese land’

Lebanon’s Higher Defense Council said Wednesday it had issued a directive to resist Israeli plans to build a border wall on Lebanese land, as military tension between the two former foes continues to mount.

“This wall, if it is built, will be considered an assault on Lebanese land,” the secretary general of Lebanon’s Higher Defense Council said in a statement after meeting senior government and military officials, as cited by Reuters.

The statement also said that the Higher Defense Council “has given its instructions to confront this aggression to prevent Israel from building [the wall] on Lebanese territory.” The council did not elaborate on how it intends to confront Israel.

Israel claims that the wall is on its territory. Tel Aviv did not immediately respond to the defense council’s statement.

In a similar statement on Tuesday, Lebanese President Michel Aoun, Prime Minister Saad al-Hariri, and parliament speaker Nabih Berri said Beirut would take active measures to prevent Israel from constructing its border wall.

The disputed territory is where the UN demarcated Israel’s withdrawal from southern Lebanon in 2000. Arguments over the wall and Lebanon’s plans to explore for offshore oil and gas in the disputed maritime waters have increased tensions between the two states.

The border has been relatively peaceful since 2006, when Israel moved into Lebanon in an attempt to root out Hezbollah. The month-long war claimed the lives of 1,191 Lebanese and left more than 4,400 injured, according to a United Nations inquiry into the conflict.

Additionally, more than 900,000 Lebanese were forced to flee their homes as a result of the Israeli invasion. Israel reportedly lost fewer than 200 people – the majority of them IDF soldiers.

However, Tensions between the two nations heightened following a brief political crisis in Beirut last November.

Later that month, Lebanon’s leaders ordered the military to be at “full readiness” to confront the “Israeli enemy” on the southern border. At the time, Lebanese President Michel Aoun said that “Israeli targeting still continues and it is the right of the Lebanese to resist it and foil its plans by all available means.”

Last week, Israeli Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman said Tel Aviv was ready for an all-out ground invasion of Lebanon in the event of a military conflict with Beirut. Lieberman also cautioned that Israel would not pull any punches if war broke out, saying that a ground offensive would be conducted at “full strength.”

“We must not take one step forward and one step backward. We will move forward as fast as possible,” Lieberman said.

How much you wanna bet that if there is a war between israel and Lebanon (Hezbollah), that Isis and it’s likes will “mysteriously” reappear with more weapons, more ruthless, more organized (Because of the experiences in Iraq and Syria will be the excuse) and they will have this seething hatred for Hezbollah and a “religious” animosity so strong they’ll direct all efforts to try and eliminate them from Lebanon along with any Christians of course? Mind you, all the while, just a few miles away israel will remain untouched. Terrorists ‘hell bent on it’s destruction’ will receive medical aid, weapons and money somehow and you’ll probably even hear about the Lebanese “killing their own people who just want to be liberated”.

More importantly, how much you wanna bet, everyone will forget or disregard that plans for specific middle eastern countries were in place decades ago by Israeli think tanks to divide and destroy those countries along religious and ethnic lines by creating and fostering those very terrorist groups for the greater israel project via the oded yinon plan and clean break strategy?
Boy, it’s a good thing we have an honest, independent media that’ll report these blatant facts and make the correlations between them. And an all American government that is absolutely not infested with Zionist interests at all. Not at all.

    1. “Terrorists ‘hell bent on it’s destruction’ will receive medical aid, weapons and money…”

      Yup!

And you can bet the farm that the ones screaming the loudest, and posting the most anti-Israhell videos are the ones receiving the most mammon from Mossad, Jamal!

  2. There is an elephant in the room over there on the Israeli Lebanese border….fresh water. The Litani River. It’s what a lot of the dispute between the two counties is about.
