What’s more trendy than Ritalin, Celebrex, and Zoloft? In our Big Pharma culture where pharmaceutical drugs are not just the norm but fully embraced as badges to display to the public, Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen have teamed up with one designer to create a ‘designer’ bag laced with major Big Pharma prescription pills. And for a mere $55,000, the Olsen twins designer bag can be your own.
Like many, you’re probably wondering ‘who would ever buy such a thing?’ As amazing as it may be, the Olsen twins former bag design (sold under ‘The Row’ brand) completely sold out when priced at $39,000. The new bag sports black leather covered with prescription pills like Viagra and various others.
More important than the outrageous prices, however, is what the new bag design reveals about our culture. Pharmaceutical drugs have now entered the realm of fashion, with anti-depressant drugs becoming trendy and unique as a result of Big Pharma marketing and the mainstream media.
Olsen Twins Designer Bag Result of Big Pharma Culture
Thanks to savvy press relations activity, pharmaceutical drugs like Prozac now represent much more than the side-effect riddled (such as the link between Prozac and suicide, the very thing it seeks to prevent) formulations that they actually are. Instead of glorifying exercise, nutritional changes, and mental health changes, outlets like television and the mainstream media have framed certain pharmaceuticals as trendy and cool. This is exacerbated by the fact that a large number of young individuals (half of all US citizens) are now dosed up with these pills, and actually not being on Prozac while attending school may be strange.
Through social circles and society at large, using and abusing these pills has become trendy. Telling everyone about how you have clinical depression and popping Prozac makes some feel special, and it has become a mainstream activity.
Now, it is being embedded on one of the most sought after fashion items of the season. The bag glamorizes rampant drug use, more specially the use of Big Pharma’s legal drugs — legal drugs that have killed more than heroin and cocaine combined.
As the fashion site ‘TooFab’ mentions, the same pharmaceutical drugs also killed longtime friend of the Olsen twins Heath Ledger. Overdosing on legal painkillers, sleeping pills and anti-anxiety pharmaceuticals, this bag now manifests the very same drugs that killed Ledger, Michael Jackson, and helped fuel the rage of many shooters.
The sick (literally) intrusion of Big Pharma into popular culture is a blatant case of corporate influence over trends and should be vehemently opposed. Taking toxic medications with over 500 side effects in many cases should not be glorified among young teen girls and others.

Absolutely disgusting. The Olsen twins probably have been drugged up and in and out or rehab for years and don’t even realize what’s going on. Typical Hollywood intelligence. All money and no brains.
I guess we now know the Olsen twins never took the RED PILL.
