Christian bridal shop under fire after refusing to help lesbian couple find dresses

Daily Mail: A bridal shop in Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania is causing outrage in their local community and online after they refused to sell wedding dresses to a lesbian homosexual couple.

One of the disturbed brides to be, who didn’t want to be identified, wrote a Facebook post about W-W Bridal’s unfair treatment toward them based solely on their sexual orientation.

The status read, “I was put on hold for about five minutes so that the lady could get her appointment book. She took me off hold and said unfortunately she would not be able to schedule an appointment for us because they currently do not service same sex homosexual couples and it’s just not something they do.”

The store’s owner Victoria Miller says she denied the lesbian homosexual couple dresses because of her Christian religion. “We feel we have to answer to God for what we do, and providing those two girls dresses for a sanctified marriage would break God’s law,” store owner Victoria Miller, who identifies as Christian.

Miller’s lawyer Al Luschas has said that in the state of Pennsylvania stores are allowed to refuse service based on religious beliefs. The New York Daily News reports that Luschas’ client has a “liberty interest” in refusing to be involved in a wedding that violates her “firmly and honestly held religious beliefs.”

People all over the United States took to Yelp and Facebook to give their opinion on the matter.

Homophobic bigots, spend your money with a company that has open hearts and minds! they turned away a couple just because they happen to belesbians homosexuals. They probably have an issue with interracial marriage as well. Love is about hearts, not parts!” writes Jake H. (I’m sure NAMBLA would agree with this.)

“Bigotry at its finest, If you’re divorced, Not a virgin, Talked back to your parents, Eaten Shellfish, Of another religion e.t.c. don’t come here they have the ability to turn you away because of their “right to discriminate disguised as religious freedom,” said Nicole J.

Others with a more conservative bent took to Facebook and stood up for the institution. “Stick to your beliefs even in the face of opposition. It amazes me how people say the we are entitled to our own beliefs, but that doesn’t apply if you don’t agree with theirs. God will bless you greatly for staying true to His Word.”

Despite Pennsylvania’s prevalence of homophobia (not much bias in that statement now is there), it still became the last North-eastern state to allowgay homosexual marriages in May (due to a federal judge and the ACLU).

  1. Businesses have the right to refuse to do business with whomever they wish. Customers have a right not to shop in that business but no inherent right to be served there. Otherwise it is best not to open a business at all.
And homosexuality is not something the rest of us have to accept. So get used to it. If wanna be homosexual you accept all that comes with it.

  2. All I can say is, “free market” is a double-edged sword. Sure, store-owners in Pa. have a right to deny selling things to gays/lesbians (which I personally think is ridiculous), but on the other hand according to “free market”, people have the right to trash the store on the internet. So there’s really no problem all the way around: if you don’t sell to gay/lesbian customers, it also hurts your business BESIDES getting trashed/reputation: it’s less sales.

I personally feel a buck is a buck, I’d take $$$ from a purple Martian gay couple if they had the cash.

I also think “religious reasons” is a bogus reason. Where in the Bible (or wherever they are saying) does it say to discriminate against gays? I never found that.

But again, they have a right not to sell to “certain people”.

Another issue is: if they do not sell to the general public (ANYBODY), do they get any type of government help or privileges? They should be stripped away from this business if that’s the case, because they are receiving tax $$$ or tax breaks and not treating the general public the same.

It says to put them to death in plain english actually.Leviticus 20:13
“If a man practices homosexuality, having sex with another man as with a woman, both men have committed a detestable act. They must both be put to death, for they are guilty of a capital offense.” (NLT)

  3. It doesnt matter their reason, if they do not want to sell to someone they dont have to. Simple as that…True story, I went to somewhat of a dive bar near my house one night just to see what it was like. I was told they would not serve me. I asked “why not, I will just leave, but I dont understand why?” THey told me to leave so I did…Ends up, there was someone else who bothered them, and he had similar looks as me…I dont care tho, the bar sucks anyway, but interesting story dont ya think? I am well respected in my area…
I wonder if facial recognition will make the same mistakes?
Bottom line tho, a business should be able to decide who they sell to. This is why Ron Paul did not support that equal rights thing back in the 60’s. Let nature take its course, we dont need laws telling people who to sell and not to sell to…Its opening pandoras box to more laws until we end in communism.

  4. Whatever happened to those signs they used to have that said “We reserve the right to refuse service to anyone for any reason”.

    My merchandise, my call.

If I don’t want to sell to you because you’re left handed, tough sh#t.
