U.S. Representative Michael Grimm of New York pleaded guilty to a federal felony tax charge on Tuesday, seven weeks after coasting to reelection despite his indictment.

The assassination of two police officers in New York City on Saturday; and the deadly attack on a Tarpon Springs, Fla. police officer one day later have boosted the toll of police deaths to 114 for 2014. More than half of the officers killed were attacked in some way. And the year is not over yet.

After a month of leaks, embarrassment, and terrorist threats — not to mention an admonishment from President Obama himself — Sony has reversed course and will release The Interview on Christmas Day in a limited number of theaters.

The Alamo Drafthouse, an independent theater chain based in Austin, confirmed to Yahoo Movies that it will screen the Seth Rogen-James Franco comedy about assassinating North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un. The U.S. economy grew at its quickest pace in 11 years in the third quarter, the strongest sign yet that growth has decisively shifted into higher gear.

The economy appears to have sustained some of the momentum in the fourth quarter. BRESCIA, Italy, Dec. 23 (UPI) — Police in northern Italy announced they seized two chow-chow dogs from a circus that had dyed the canines’ hair in an attempt to pass them off as pandas.

Officials with Riverside County, Calif., removed a newborn baby from her mother without a valid reason or a court-ordered warrant, a practice that the county does very often, according to claims made by the mother in a federal class action lawsuit.
