Yahoo News – by Oliver KnoxDefense Secretary Chuck Hagel, the only Republican in President Barack Obama’s cabinet, will announce his resignation on Monday, the White House said.
Hagel’s departure – a major post-election reshuffle of Obama’s struggling national security team – comes as the United States faces a series of major international challenges, from the war against the so-called Islamic State (IS) to the planned troop draw-down from Afghanistan.
The New York Times, which first reported the former senator’s departure, cited anonymous Obama aides as saying Hagel was being removed because he was the wrong person to lead the campaign against IS.
A senior administration official, who requested anonymity, said a successor would “be named in short order,” but that Hagel would stay on until that person is confirmed.
It was unclear whom Obama would pick to succeed Hagel, the first former enlisted man to serve as secretary of defense. The list of potential candidates included Michele Flournoy, who served as the number-three official in the Pentagon in Obama’s first term. Former deputy secretary of defense Ashton Carter and Sen. Jack Reed (D.-Rhode Island), who served as an officer in the Army’s 82nd Airborne Division.
Despite the New York Times report, the anonymous official who confirmed Hagel’s departure characterized him as “a steady hand” at the Pentagon.
“In October, Secretary Hagel began speaking with the President about departing the Administration given the natural post-midterms transition time. Those conversations have been ongoing for several weeks,” the official said.
Wrong person to lead the campaign against

How do you fight a war that primarily benefits other allied countries against an “enemy” that is funded by your those same allies (and, at the minimum, indirectly by factions inside your own government)?
As a former soldier, he probably didn’t want to sacrifice any American sons for the benefit of our “special relationship” in the Middle East.
If you don’t squat and leave a pile when Israel says “shit”, then you’re outta there.
Look for someone who is a much more overtly Israeli puppet stooge as the next SecDef.
Possible replacement could be Michele Flournoy, CFR affiliate amongst other insidious groups. Chuckie wasn’t our savior for sure. She will do the same as he but set the stage for “republican” party supporters to point fingers as to why the things are not going the way they want them to. More smoke and mirrors but this one has an open history of beyond obvious zionist allegiance.

I’ve lost count as to how many people have resigned as Secretary of Defense under Barry. That should tell people something.

Confusing, this is. I saw another article subsequent to this one that said he was fired, which would be indicated by the second sentence.
